A week or so ago, the Washington Post reported on yet another candidate for World's Dumbest Crook:
In one of our inner suburbs, a pair of ten-year-old (female) twins were awakened in the middle of the night by a man who had entered their home through an unlocked sliding glass door. He had disguised himself in all-black clothing and a mask and quickly tied a gag over the mouth of one twin. As he did so, the girls realized they were about to be abducted and set about fending off the attacker. They had been schooled in martial arts, whch they put to good use in their counterattack. The noise awakened their parents, who ran to help. The attacker escaped, but the twins had recognized his voice during the struggle. He was one of their martial-arts instructors! Police quickly located him and took him into custody.
At a subsequent bail hearing, the would-be abductor, who had suffered a black eye and other injuries, argued that he should be granted bail because he was an "upstanding citizen." His explanation was that he had never intended to abduct the twins, but only to burglarize the home. The judge denied his request.
