Where Do I Go For Information On...

Post by 1bigsteve »

If I wanted to find out what episode(s) of a TV show a certain TV channel aired on such and such a date, where would I go for that information? I tried writing to the Broadcast company itself but they ignore all my inquires. I tried the Nielson ratings Co. but they ignore me as well.

A few years ago I saw a few episodes, of an old TV program, that were not supposed to be in existence at the time I saw them. The episodes I saw were supposed to have been "erased" after their original airing over 30 years ago. All of the Fan Sites say I did not see what I saw. I don't want to say what show it was until I can get confirmation of what I saw. I thought maybe some of you Bordenites might be able to send me in the right direction.

Thanks.

1bigsteve, try here: http://www.tv.com/

This site lists hundreds of shows with episodes.

On the left side go down to browse shows. If you know the name of the show, click the first letter of the title. When you find your show then click episodes.

Thank you Harry. I checked out the site and although they do list the episodes I saw they only have the original air dates and of course they say that those that I saw don't exist. I'll keep looking for somebody who knows what that Broadcast Company aired the nights I saw those non-existant shows. I thought of putting an ad in the local paper to see if anyone recorded those episodes onto VHS.

Thanks again Harry.

I don't know to what exactly you refer, but something similar happened to me.
You just have to keep asking people who you are talking to and eventually you will find one who saw what you saw.

I saw, one time, a commercial that was on once, just one time- and at the time I was very struck by it. It took about 5 years before I found someone who had seen that one commercial.
Good luck.

Steve, maybe if you confided in someone they could help you find what you are looking for ?

The more people you ask, the higher odds you will find someone.

Tracy...

I made the mistake of telling the founder of one of the fan sites of that TV show that I had seen a few of the episodes that he said did not exist at the time I saw them. I got raked up one side and then down the other!! The episodes I saw were supposed to have been erased shortly after they were originally aired so the Production Company could re-use the expensive video tape. So I want to get confirmation from someone who has a VHS off-the-air recording of those episodes before I shoot my mouth off about what show it was and which episodes. I mean, hey, I'm not Arnold Brown. All the other fan sites say the same thing; Those episodes don't exists!

Anyway this is what happened. A few years ago I heard that this old series, which I had enjoyed seeing decades earlier when they were still being made, was coming back on TV so I made sure I was tuned in for the first showing which was on a Monday evening. I got quite a surprise when the first episode came on because it was so old. It was five years older that the first episodes I had originally seen. I had no idea that this show was as old as it was. For the rest of the week I sat through these old first season episodes and wrote the titles of each episodes down in my TV log book. The following Monday the episodes got better as they started showing episodes from season two. Months later as they got to the end of the series and started back at the begining I remember saying to myself, "Oh crap, I have to sit through all these old episodes again" but only one of those first seasons was shown (the one that everyone agrees still exist). On Tuesday they jumped to the second season episodes and I figured it was because the episodes were so old they didn't want to subject the public to the torture. These episodes were old. They made silent movies look good. I think Lizzie had a walk-on part in one of them. When she was a child! Or was it her Grandmother?!! Low budget of course.

About a year later I went to one of the fan sites and they had a list of every episode made including photos and plot. I saw the title and discriptions of the ones I had seen and the plots fit perfectly with what I remember seeing. Then I read the notice that most of the episodes I saw had been erased from the master tapes days after they were originally aired decades earlier. I emailed the founder and told him I had seen those episodes on TV and I ended up getting it in the face. Over the course of several months I browsed through their forum reading the fan's posts and noticed on the rare occasion (about four times) when someone made an off-hand comment about seeing one of those "non-existant" first season episodes. their posts were quickly erased.

I talked with several experts on old TV shows and although they tell me those episodes don't exist, as far as they know, they have kept an open mind and wished me luck in finding a video. I talked to one of the actresses who starred in two of the second season episodes and she didn't have any inside info on their existance and referred me back to the web site I just had the run in with. I emailed one of the lead actors but never got a response. He was interviewed, from what one of the forum posters had said, and he said the first season did exist. But since he was getting up there in age everyone figures he meant the second season.

Since the scenes I vividly remember seeing are not in any later episodes (and I've seen them all) and since the lead actors in these "non-existant" episodes did not star together in any other TV shows, I could not have confused these episodes with episodes from a different TV show. Unfortunately I threw away my TV log before I discovered that web site. I remember writing down those titles because they were a little odd. There are photos taken through the camera at the time of production on this web site that fit perfectly with the scenes I remember so well. In one there is a car in the back ground with a canvas top and a strange looking front end. I remember the actors walking past that car toward a square man-hole cover and thinking to myself "how odd that car looked." Both the square man-hole cover and the car are there in that photo. Unfortunately the front of the car is cropped off in the photo but I remember that dorky looking car. There is another scene of a woman being kidnapped. I remember the scene was shot in silent mode with sound effects added in later. There was a plane of "graininess" that followed the camera as if the camera man had stretched a woman's nylon over the camera lens. The same effect you get when you put your face up against a screen door. There are photos of that actress on that site. I recognised her face, hair style and color even though I had never seen her before.

Now if I had never seen those episodes, which I did not know even exsisted before I saw them, how could I remember such detail which is backed-up by the photos on the site? What I need is to find an organization of some sort that keeps track of everything that is shown on American TV that would be willing to go through their archives and track down what that particular Broadcast Company showed that year, day and hour. So far the Broadcast Company itself ignores my letters. What would be better is a video recording. I'm going to run a local ad and see what pops up. Probably more ridicule.

It has been an interesting project but it has also been very aggravating. I need to get some proof for my own sanity if nothing else. If any of you know who I can contact please let me know. I'll let you all know how it goes.

You might try contacting Mike at antisoshal.com

He frequently gets videos of things that supposedly aren't available on video.
