One of our local TV stations has a feature called "Morning Person," that asks viewers to nominate someone who brightens the mornings for others. Naturally the nominees have to be people who go to work early, so they're often employees in restaurants or on public transportation. A few mornings ago, the nominee was someone who works in a local hospital. He was described as having an "infectious smile." (Would that be a good thing in a hospital setting?)

Today's Washington Post has a full-page ad for a sale at the Hecht's Department Store chain (soon to be Macy's). Some of the items on sale are sportswear, accessories, and costume jewelry. There's a photo of a lissome model wearing a skimpy black push-up bra. Emblazoned on her torso are the words "FOR HER." Duh! Like I would have been really confused if they hadn't told me that! (I've seen a few men who could have used a bra, but I don't think they would have chosen that style.)

Speaking of Hecht's: When I moved to D. C. in the sixties, I breezed out of my office building one noon and hailed a cab, instructing the driver to take me to The Hecht Company. Without missing a beat, he countered, "The Hecht, you say?"
