Snow everywhere!!!! I was kinda excited about having a big snow, though. It started around 4pm yesterday, and by about 11pm, it was starting to lay. I went to bed, and woke up around 4am to find my husband absent from the bed. He gets up kinda early to go online..he's discovered Yahoo Games Mah Jong!!! At that point the snow was coming down hard. I made some coffee and watched the snow awhile and my husband started a fire in the fireplace...nice and cozy! About 9am, I decided to crash on the couch for awhile, and woke up at noon. When I woke up, the snow had stopped. Surprisingly, the roads were actually clear. I guess the roads were so warm from the weather the past few weeks, and snow pretty much melted. It was a pretty wet snow, though, and all day big chunks of snow were dropping off the trees. Around 2, I decided to take my Kitty, who is a huge, totally spoiled rotten baby, outside to investigate the snow. I put his leash on, took him out, and plunked him down in the snow. He just stood there meowing, and wouldn't budge. Took him back inside, and he shook his feet dry, and stretched out in front of the fire. It was a pretty good snow...not too little, not too much, the roads cleared quickly, and no power outages or anything.

I love when it snows and I don't have to go out! It was beautiful here. We got around a foot of snow, really windy tonight, drifting a bit.
Just had the dog out and the moon is full and it is so peaceful and beautiful outside, could have stayed out longer but it was getting a bit brisk! Hot cup of tea and then I am off to bed!
Stay warm all!
I thought I would go out, and see if the air would make me feel any better. "Lizzie Andrew Borden"

I spent yesterday wrapped in a blanket feeling yucky with some kind of head cold thing.

Today it's bright and sunny. In our yard we have grass still showing in some areas and snow drifts of maybe two feet in other areas. Emily is home from school today. The snow was very light and fluffy so shoveling's not bad. I got the cars cleared out earlier and the girls are shoveling the front walk right now.

I'm still not quite over this cold, so I'm taking a sick day today, although I don't even know if the town offices are open. I do have to run out for groceries later, though, and we never got around to getting Valentine candy for Em, so we have to do that, too.

It's supposed to be back up to 50 degrees here by Thursday.

It was nice to read the 'snow stories', and glad so far nobody's posted anything too bad. What a thoughtful thread, Audrey!

You guys from Maryland made it sound gorgeous.

Get well soon, Fairhaven Guy! It's sweet of you to go out for candy for your daughter. (pun intended) Bundle up!

I had a hilarious time with my new dog Barkley. Evidently. he is too young to remember snow from last year, so he was absoutely delighted. He frolicked in the back yard all day and then would come in the doggie door and race around madly (like they tend to do when they get baths). Then he'd want to sit on my lap with all the snow covering him. He had all the other dogs playing too because he was so enthusiastic. The cats were really p o'ed with him by the end of the day because he caused so much commotion. Then he collapsed and slept like a dead dog at the end of the day. It's like having a little kid around again. The branches of the trees on the mountain were all heavy with snow- it was very pretty, especially with the full moon last night.

We didn't exactly have a blizzard here in Northern Virginia, but we did get about 6-8" of snow in my area. I laid in plenty of supplies and three books to read and was all set for a cozy day at home alone yesterday (Sunday). Then the power went off about 9:30 in the morning! It turns out a branch had fallen onto a power line about two blocks from my house, and the line was still "hot." Somebody cut the power, and most of our community went dark. That means no heat, because the igniters and fan are powered by electricity, even though the furnace is gas. My daughter in Texas called me about an hour later, and I told her the power was out but that I had a contingency plan. I said I would go out and shovel the walk and driveway right after we talked -- which I did. If it got too cold in the house, I was prepared to go to a motel or a friend's place for the night.

The power didn't come back on until about 4:30 in the afternoon, but I managed to keep fairly warm until then. I was going to call my daughter and let her know I was okay, but my phone died about the time the power came back on! (I'm one of those people who refuse to get a cell phone.)

Exhausted from shoveling snow, I repaired to my bedroom about 7:00 to read and watch TV. Of course I fell asleep. About 10:30, I was awakened by someone pounding on my front door. It turned out to be a neighbor that I don't even know! My daughter had tried to call me repeatedly and gotten no answer, although the phones were back on. She had a friend's number, but he lives pretty far from me and didn't know how I was faring. He too tried to call me with no response. I have no phone in the bedroom and couldn't hear the other phones ringing over the noise of the television, which I had left on.

My daugher became alarmed when I didn't answer the phone. She got a reverse look-up for a nearby address and called that number. Apparently my daughter, knowing I had been shoveling snow, pictured me lying comatose in a snowbank somewhere.

Moral: I gotta get a phone for my bedroom and maybe rethink my position on cell phones. Oh, well...at least it brought a little excitement into my otherwise drab existence. (That's what I used to tell my kids when they'd ask me why I was doing something they deemed odd, such as applying makeup or brushing my hair.)

Wow, all these great snow stories make me want to get a cup of hot cocoa and curl up in front of my fireplace. But around here we had about 3 inches which accumulated, and then quickly melted right back off. There were some flurries today that again melted right off, no accumulation. I still have a yard full of bare grass. It hasn't much looked like wintertime at all here yet. When we do get snow it lasts about a day. Thanks for the pictures Angel, they were really lovely.

Angel, thank you for sharing the beautiful pics from Harpers Ferry! This is one of my favorite day trip destinations! I just love to sit and watch the river! My daughter loves the restaurant , Secret Six Tavern so we sometimes come down for lunch on the weekends and then spend the afternoon wandering around town. I always have to stop at the Herb Lady for fresh potpourri and other neat stuff. Haven't been down since October. IT IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL IN THE SNOW!

This morning the full moon was just setting over the mountains when I opened my bedroom shades. It was crystal clear out and the snow was just beautiful with the moon! I ran all over the house looking for batteries for my camera. None to be found and both rechargeables were dead! I was so mad!
I thought I would go out, and see if the air would make me feel any better. "Lizzie Andrew Borden"

I have a great snowstorm story, but Audrey booby-trapped my house in the event I ever tried to tell the story...again.

Edisto -- what a caring and resourceful daughter you have! Good on her for using the reverse directory. I would never have thought of that.
