stuartwsa--I've had so little time to watch the telly that I didn't know this was a new show. I just hit it by chance, awake at 2am, on WE cable channel.
The episode I saw about the son who was killed in a fire was extremely interesting. The contact John Edwards had with the family after the initial contact during a taping was really touching. I'm looking forward to another episode.

The content of the first episode caught me by surprise, as I have had a similar situation involving friends of the family. As I have mentioned before, we were quite close with a neighboring family when I was growing up, but we lost most of them in a fire in 1970. Eight people were killed, incuding parents, two sons and four foster children. One son and one foster child survived. After many years of seaching, I found the surviving son and his wife. She and I have had a lot of contact, and he wants to be in touch with me, but so far hasn't. But unlike the girl that revisited the scene in the show, he cannot even bear to think about his family, let alone discuss any long-ago memories. I sure wish that I could help him get the help he needs to get past it all.

That's so sad, stuartwsa.
So many people around here were affected by The Station Nightclub Fire in West Warwick in 2/03. People who lost friends and family keep having these memories raked over as the various cases go through the courts and the fire gets replayed in the media.
I think fire is one of the scariest deaths imaginable.
But whether you believe in John Edward's ability or not, I think he did help that family to do some real healing. It was very touching.

I don't think so.
He was retired for a bit which he explained. He's apparently pretty shy and has to force himself to do TV. However, he has said in the past he is as effective over the phone- so if we add shy to effective- maybe radio is the right *Medium* for him?
I really don't know, now that I think about it...
Anyone know?

i've seen his old show. never was able to form a definite judgment. i don't know what he's got or how much of it he's got. i personally know someone who is able to read people, or discern, or whatever word you choose -- into their past, present, and future. and this i know -- that such gifts exist; but she doesn't function this way with a TV show. i have a problem with what we call "the media." so this edwards guy -- i just don't know with a strong sense of certainty -- one way or the other. i do know there are people who would never seek fame or success who can see right through you (they don't want worldly anything). so i don't know. i guess it's interesting that i never saw anything that clearly spelled "fraud" in edwards. it's hard to know if what you are seeing through media is genuine or a form of cleverness. edwards is at least very intelligent. people with these kinds of gifts are usually women -- i say that from observation, i don't have any idea why. i hate to make a gender distinction, because that usually arouses argument and i can't sufficiently justify the position -- but women are generally better equipped for this sort of thing. it seems to me this has always been the case. just like women are generally better in the performing arts - and also, there are some fantastic women writers, although they do not generally make outstanding painters. well, i digress into speculation about the marriage of gender and talent. there's always a huge "rule-breaker" on the horizon. the foregoing may have no real merit -- but back to john edwards -- he may be genuine or a great con, i just have yet to see anything that convinces me either way. there is a certain leap that such a person must make, and i haven't seen it. that doesn't mean he hasn't made it. i don't know. but i ask myself this question -- if i had the gift of spiritual discernment, would I want a TV show? think about it.

He doesn't really want a TV show. That's my understanding of why he disappeared from TV before.
I have read 2 of his books- autobiographical- so I feel, after watching all his shows and reading his books that I have a good sense of the person and it's a very caring and creative force he wields.
There is also James Van Praugh who is a male and he takes some getting used to. He too was pretty good. He now consults on Medium, the TV show.
So that's 2 men. There are 2 men who work with the police on Court TV or A&E- I forget which- who do a show called Psychic Detectives. So there are more men doing this kind of work nowadays. But remember Edgar Cayce?
I would recommend the first book by John Edward where he desrcibes how he got into TV at the beginning. It's very good.
BTW: He dropped his last name and goes by his first and middle name: John Edward.
It's confusing because we use the plural.
