Who would Lizzie have taken the rap for?

Post by DWilly »

I don't want anyone to feel they have to commit to a theory. I'm just throwing out this idea that if you think she may have taken the rap for someone else then who most likely do you think it was or do you think Lizzie was to self-centered to ever do such a thing ?

I think that lizzie was too self centered. She loved her sister emma but not that much. She was interested in saving her own skin.

I too think Lizzie would not have ever taken the rap for anyone, even Em. I don't think I would take the rap either if I were in Lizzie's shoes. I feel we all ought to pay the piper ourselves for what crimes we may commit. I would never let anyone take the rap for me!

In a way I have to give Lizzie some credit. She really didn't try to implicate anyone else to save herself from being suspected. As a matter of fact she went out of her way to say that many of the suspects couldn't/wouldn't have done it, while this also proved to point the finger even more definitely in her direction.

That's the enigma of Lizzie. On the one hand I feel she was too self-centered to take a rap for another person and on the other hand it's true that she did not try to shift suspicion to anyone else.

i'm in a mindset now about the importance of asking the right questions. i would not ask the question, who would she take the rap for, in the sense we usually mean--that she was protecting someone.

My question is: Who was is that lizzie could NOT name as the culprit? who would such a person be? what if lizzie did not know the actual name of the person, and what if the association itself would have been too humiliating if she had given a description?

this goes to the robinson papers. just what did she tell her lawyers?

Self-centered or not, I really don't think Lizzie would have taken the rap for anyone. I also think she knew she was in the position of being the primary suspect and that is why she kept changing her story.

Correct me if I am wrong, but, didn't Lizzie try to implicate one other person - a strange man who had angry words with Andrew?

Lizzie's focus was to improve her standing, even if, as it turned out, she was the only one impressed by it. If she had taken the rap for anyone, she would have missed out on that.

Yes Lizzie did point to unnamed men lurking around, to Alice Wednesday evening, that someone committed robbery, a man came that morning, a man came another time and had angry words, someone was trying to poison them, someone might burn the place down, and named Hiram Harrington as a suspect in her mind as one who did not get along with Andrew.

She just seems to not point the finger of guilt at anyone else, yet she did. Also by saying who she thought did not do it, it does put suspicion on those people, in my opinion.
