I was looking through my Lizzzie books and was wondering if anyone knows at what time of day Lizzie died?

I think I read somewhere that she died somethime in the after noon, but I am not sure either. I have been looking at some articles to see if it's mentioned.

Time of Death

The only thing I have close to is that in Past & Present it mentions that Lizzie gave Ernest Terry (or one of his family members) a cash gift just hours before her death.
I wonder if it's possible to get a copy of her death certificate?

According to a newspaper article in David Kent's Sourcebook, page 330, titled Lizzie Borden Dead, Lizzie died at 8:30 in the evening.

The newspaper is not identified. The New York Times also says "last night".

Harry, does anyone know exactly what killed Lizzie and what her condition was during her last days as far as was she in a coma or was she in pain?

As Tracy says she was recovering fom a gall bladder operation that she had in 1926.

Her death certificate lists the cause of death as myocarditis. Googled that and found this:

"Background: Myocarditis is collection of diseases of infectious, toxic, and autoimmune etiologies characterized by inflammation of the heart. Subsequent myocardial destruction can lead to dilated cardiomyopathy.

Myocarditis is an elusive illness to study, diagnose, and treat as the clinical presentation may range from nearly asymptomatic to overt heart failure requiring transplantation; a myriad of causes exist, and it is occasionally the unrecognized culprit in cases of sudden death."

She probably contracted some sort of viral infection from the operation and was in decline the last year.

I also recall that she died at night. Good call!
I have a feeling "myocarditis" (thanks for looking up the definition Har!) was one of those catch-all terms, like Emma's *nephritis.*
When I had looked up nephritis I found it to be considered a sort of common diagnosis of C.O.D in that time period, especially without an autopsy.
But yes Lizbeth is said to have not really recovered from that earlier operation.
