Is there a list of Lizzie owned books somewhere? I have tried searching the forum and get too many listings.
If no one has started a list, I will gladly start one, bout time I earn my keep around here anyway. BIG SMILE

Do you mean books about LIzzie or books that Lizzie owned? I would love to know what books Lizzie read. Does anyone know what LIzzie read, what she liked to read?

Kat- How can I get a 1998 copy of the LBQ?
I saw someone make a reference about a list of books she owned but they said it was in the Privy, which I cant get into. I have been reading and researching in the archives and have stumbled across references about books she owned and thought I would put it all in one place for us. Besides, I think we may be able to tell a lot about her just by what books she kept and or read. At least I think it would help me dig a little deeper into her personality and what interested her.
I will put the list in a readable format and get it posted up here. May need some help with getting it attached though. I have papers scattered all over, at work, in the garage, in the car with scraps of books owned so will get those gathered and put it up. Maybe we can update it as we stumble across others.
Snookums I am wanting to read books that Lizzie owned and probably might have read also. Any insight in to her mental process's would I think be a great help and besides I just want to read what she read.

Hello Bobarth,

Your desire to assemble a listing of books owned by Lizzie Borden is a commendable one.

You must exercise a certain degree of caution before accepting, as gospel, any of the books purported to be in this category.

There are many unscrupulous people "out there" who are trying to make a dishonest buck by forging Lizzie's initials or name to a book. I find that some of the books you have mentioned belong in this category.

This is not meant to discourage you -just be prudent when you finalize your list.

Yes Bobarth as William has mentioned compiling a list of books from Lizzie's library is a most admirable endeavour.

The bulk of Lizzie's library is in a private collection. Though some copies have made it into other private collections the greater part of over 200 copies in Lizzie's archive is intact and in "one" private collection. This information comes from a reliable source, though the custodian of the books remain secret.

mbhenty: WOW hundreds of Lizzie owned books in one place. I think that is kind of cool and hope they take real good care of our girls books.

Has a list of those books ever been released? If not do you suppose the owner would release a listing, if their safety is not compromised?
Makes me feel good that someone has them in one place and sounds like they are protecting them.

I notice that you updated your original list of the 13th on the 19th.
Maybe some may have missed an update?

I can only suggest you copy-paste your growing list into a new post each time you add to it?
Or post a message at the end of the thread that you have added to your previous list?
Otherwise people won't know to keep up?
Just a suggestion for clarity. You don't have to do it.

There is a wonderful source on line called The Gutenberg Project. It has books that I guess are no longer covered by copyright or whatever. You can actually go to that site and read some of the books Lizzie owned. I started reading The Rosary by Barclay. Of course many of the popular books that Lizzie read at that time tend to be a bit dry by our standards.

From all that I've read it seems to be just a character named Scaramouche which was originated by a man named Tiberio Fiorillo, and who acted like a buffoon. I think it just means someone who acts like a clown, or isn't terribly bright. Scaramouche was also the name of a character in Punch and Judy.
