Good morning all, we here in Illinois had our first snow and it was a fine one!!! I'd guess at least 8 inches of snow with a half inch of sleet under it. I love it the first day, it makes everything beautiful, like a winter wonderland. The sun's out now and the sky is a fresh, crisp blue, and the 20 mile an hour wind is blowing the snow around making some really nice sized drifts. I have just enough room to step out my door before encountering a nice 4 foot one! There's work ahead if I want to get out, but for right now, before it gets shoveled and tracked through, I'm just enjoying the wonder of it! It was a good sized storm, anyone else get any of it??

We are getting rain here in New England but the weatherman says maybe we will get some flakes in the Providence- Fall River area on Monday. The temps are dropping over the weekend. It is 65 here today!! I will be heading out to the Cape tomorrow morning to visit the Edward Gorey House in Yarmouthport, Mass. The Dracula set exhibit closes on the 17th and I have wanted to see it forever! We should have temps in the 40's for the trip, about 1 1/2 hours northeast of Fall River.

Have fun, shakiboo! Used to love it when I was a young boy. However, when older moved south to get away from it. Gotta admit though, I miss the seasons.

There are few pictures of snow in Lizzie's Fall River. This pre-1890 one was recently on sale on EBay. The view is looking up North Main with the Granite Block to the left. City Hall would be across the street on the right (out of the photo).

I was always curious about the sleigh in one of the stalls in the Borden barn. Somehow I can't see Andrew jing-jing-jingling through town. Lizzie, maybe.

The storm missed us completely. It's snowing very lightly here now, and did yesterday as well. We generally get the first snow in October, as we did this year, but it melted soon after falling. We've had a very warm November this year, the last few days were near 50 degrees! Our October was chillier than November. Today is more seasonable, highs in the twenties, lows in the teens.

Shelley, have a great time, but I gotta tell ya, we were in the 60's the day before this started moving in, and it rained and rained and then the temperature dropped 40 decree's and then came the sleet turning into all of this lovely white stuff!!! It's sunny now but cold, 20 decree's, but after checking the weather map it looks like it went on up through the state and into Michigan but there's weather headed your way.

Hi Harry, thanks for the picture! I can't see Andrew enjoying a sleigh ride either, but if business called I bet he did! I think it would be easier for him to ride then to walk in it, especially as he got older. I wonder if there was some one there to hook up the sleigh for them, and why he got rid of the horse.....

When I checked the map it looked like it was headed right up your alley, it sure left a mess in Chicago on it's way. Maybe it's emptied itself out before it got there.

LOOK FOR OCCASIONAL LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TO BECOME HEAVIER AND MORE FREQUENT THIS AFTERNOON...ESPECIALLY OVER HIGHER TERRAIN WEST OF NEGAUNEE. BY SUNSET...UP TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW MAY ACCUMULATE OVER THE HURON MOUNTAINS. THE SNOW SHOWERS WILL BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD THIS EVENING BEFORE DIMINISHING LATER TONIGHT. EXPECT ANOTHER 3 TO 4 INCHES TO ACCUMULATE TONIGHT NEAR LAKE SUPERIOR

Looks like I spoke too soon. I'm four miles west of Negaunee, just on the western edge of the snow area on the map. Time to fire up the snowblowers!

Your probably alot more prepared up that way then we are here, it's been quite some time since I remember this much snow at one time! A snowblower would be a really nice thing to have! I haven't even begun to shovel yet, so, it's pretty today and work tomorrow!!

We just had a tornado in CT- a rare occurance. I was recently watching the Wizard of Oz and began to wonder about heading for the basement, but it soon died out over Torrington, but a lot of wind damage was done. We have 50 mph winds now. I hope no more trees go down at Maplecroft!

Everything is still where it is supposed to be on French Street and on Second Street. The wind had blown out by about 10 p.m. and the storm went out to sea. Tonight the cold air has come in, and tomorrow it will be a struggle to get out of the high 30's in the morning. Lee Ann put up all the house decorations today, -photos to come tomorrow. Getting ready now for the winter chill. . . .

Glad to here all's well over your way, can't wait to see the pictures! I'm still shoveling, there's about two inches of sleet under the snow, that's making it alot more difficult then it should be, so it's quickly losing it's Norman Rockwell appeal! lol
