Has anyone heard of Hattie Borden Welds HIstorical and Genealogical Record of the descendants of Richard and Joan Borden? I'd like to look at it.

Yes I have the genealogy from there.
In that new book on the Cornells*, the author states that Weld is a source for the Cornell/Borden murder connection thru heredity. It's not so. Weld does not have the Cornell connection- she has the "Wardell" connection. I don't know how that author slipped that by. I read footnotes. :wink:

I think they were the first bordens in america. First in Rhode Island, and then some moved to Massachetts.

There's an easier genealogy to read by Benjamin Earl & Son, 1877, that the FRHS sells.

Yes Richard and Joan married in England and came to America, 1635, Rhode Island. Their son, Matthew, born 1638 is recorded as the first child born of English parents in R.I.

His brother John (and Mary Earl, his wife), came abt. 1635 as well, possibly settling near Boston, then prob to R.I., then to New London, Conn.
