Did Susan B. Anthony ever write about Lizzie?

Post by Oscar »

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of any correspondence Susan B. Anthony may have written to anyone concerning Lizzie Borden? I believe that she and Lizzie had friends in common such as the author, Mary A. Livermore. I know Lizzie had much support from suffragettes during her trial.

Susan B.'s house and musuem is here in Rochester, but I haven't had the nerve to approach them with this yet.

Susan B. is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetary, an amazing place with a very unusual landscape (the first municpal cemetary in the US). Unfortunately, her headstone was recently vandalized with graffitti and was knocked over, but they are fixing it. Frederick Douglass is also buried there. BTW: George Eastman is not, he's at Kodak Park.

I've never heard of any writings by Susan B. about Lizzie or even any type of connection between the two, Oscar. Kat, Harry or some of the others may know of something.

I have a few of the biographies written about Anthony, and I have read the diary written by her good friend Elizabeth Stanton which was published that provides many details about Susan as well. I have never seen any mention of Lizzie Borden in any of them.

I don't think they knew each other either, but I'm sure they had some associations and friends in common. I'm sure Susan B. had some interest in the case at the time.

I don't think Susan B. Anthony is even mentioned in Rebello's book, which relies a lot on news items. That might mean that in the public eye- ie: newspapers- there had been no obvious connection.
Good luck and if you find one, please let us know?
