Borden family Crest and Name History

Post by snokkums »

 Borden is one of the names that was brought to England in the wave of migration following the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Borden family name comes from the Norman personal name, "Burdo" which is thought to be Germanic, but is of uncertain orgin.

Spelling variations of this family name include: Burdon, Burden Bourden Bourdon, Birden, Berden, Berden, Burdin,Burdun Burdon, Burdune, Burggdone, Burdoun.

First found in Essex where they were granted lands by king willaim the Conqueror for their assistance at the Battle of Hastings.

Some of the first settlers of this family name of some its variants were: Edward Burden settled in Boston Mass., 1635, Thomas Burden settled in Virginia in 1734, John and Richard Burden settled in New York tate in 1803.

I though this was interesting. I was looking up the family crest and name history and got this.

Will you give your source please? Are you using Hattie Borden Weld or an online search, or Earl & Son?
