Phantom of the opera

Post by Angel »

I just spent a fortune on two tickets to see Phantom of the Opera at the Kennedy Center in DC in August. It's a present for me and my daughter-in-law because we both have birthdays that week. I can hardly wait.

Ohmigawd, I love that play! I saw it in Arizona performed by a traveling troupe from New York, they had to retrofit the theater for the chandelier as it weighed so much! Where are your seats? When I saw it we were in the fourth row, dead center, directly beneath the chandelier, kind of scary knowing how much that thing weighed!

Never saw the play but I love those old movies. The 1961 version was probably my favorite although I haven't seen it in years. I love that story!

Have fun, Ellen!

CONGRATS ELLEN !!!

I have yet to see Phantom on Broadway, but I have seen Urinetown, Rent, Hairspray, and A Long Day's Journey Into Night. There is nothing like a Great White Way production. I swear, if I could, I would fly to NYC every month just to catch a show. You and your daughter-in-law will have a wonderful time !!!

In the orchestra, 8 rows from the front.

You could have saved a bundle by buying the videorecording of the 1943 Hollywood film of this 19th century novel (in your library?).

Or have they suppressed or censored this old recording?

Are you trying to teach me good manners, too?

About 12 years ago I saw the 1943 film on PBS (?). But I see Amazon.com does not list it at all. Suppressed?

The original cast may be better than a road show version. IMO

I saw the Claude Rains version (1943) on TV a few months ago so it is not being suppressed as far as I know. Amazon may just be out of stock.

Ray, a movie is nice but it does not have the magic that a live performance has. Same thing with live music. I'm sure Ellen will enjoy the play much more than seeing a movie version and I'm sure her money will be well spent.

Have a wonderful time, Ellen!

I know your post name is Angel. Believe me there is nothing like seeing it live on stage. You just get so involved in the show. It's not something you can probably afford every week ha ha, but believe me I still remember every show I ever saw on stage. We would go at least once a year. I even ventured to see the Nutcracker Ballet. I thought I probably wouldn't like it but once they started I just fell in love with it. Every show I've seen the actors, actresses have always given such a great performance. You are making quite a memory for youself. As for you Ray, you need to get out more. Maybe you would be satisfied with a movie but there are those of us that would rather have the experience of seeing it live.

You are 1000% wrong again!

But my outlook has changed over the past years.
Perhaps this is another effect of aging?

Andy's mistake was to not keep a .32 revolver handy when meeting clients. Most establishment in those days and later never failed to do this.

When I worked in an owner-operated business in my teens the owner and manager always kept one handy. He dealt in cash, not credit.

Me too. My eight year old grandaughter watched the movie and she was so enchanted by it that she had to get her own copy.
