hidding the axe
i was reading an artical and it was about where the axe was. does any one know if there is any proof of the axe being hid in the cellar under the furnace i dont know if it was a very reputible source and i hoped someone would know more than me...

The Borden Murdey Mystery is that the actual murder weapon was never found. (Arnold Brown explains it was taken away by the real killer.) No, there is no proof that the axe was taken away. Since it was never found by the police searches, the correct conclusion is that it was taken away.
I wonder how many will contradict this post?
It was Farmer William in the Bedroom with the Hatchet.

Anyway, people wrote in to the prosecutor giving their ideas as to where the hatchet was. I believe a psychic or was it OUIJA? said it was buried in the dirt of the cellar?
I think burying it is a good idea.
There were 5 axes and hatchets in this case, 6 if you include the one found in June of 1893 on the roof of Mr. Crowe's barn. Not one was proven to be the weapon.
Some think it was hidden in the barn rafters and fell out when the barn was taken down in 1929.
Another item- in Yankee magazine- in a letter, claimed a rag man was given it by Lizzie and he took it away and dumped it not knowing what it was until later.

Here is a segment from The Knowlton Papers about where a person (who names themselves "Justice") thinks the hatchet ended up:
HK043, Aug. 31, 1892:
".... It was stated that paper or rags had been burned in the stove. She could easily have hid the hatchet where it could not be found. Probably there is a hole in the chimney where she could easily have put the hatchet that would have dropped down where it could not be got at. She could have hid the hatchet easily enough and clothes might also have been put into the chimney."
HK043, Aug. 31, 1892:
