I found all the stuff on the website and am starting to read the statements made by everyone right after the murders. I am now reading on page 11 what one of the police said, and found where he had talked to some woman remarking about Lizzie's feelings towards her step mother. Evidently she heard Lizzie say that Mrs. Borden was "one of the kind that never die." Brrr! I have to go home now and probably won't be able to read more till tomorrow, but some of this I haven't seen before, so I will be entrnched in this for a long time. The material is volumnous.

Ooh - the Witness Statements? Those are great. You can read stuff in there that you can't read elsewhere.

When Lizzie said Abby was the kind that never died, was this reported second-hand? I'm recalling that a woman was interviewed who overheard two women talking, and she overheard one say that Lizzie said that. Just trying to brush up on some stuff as it comes up.

The first time I saw the photos of the skulls I was really shocked.

Yes, it was two women talking. I was thinking about that. If Lizzie was so blunt in those days when Victorian ladies were supposed to be tactful and delicate, it must have made for much gossip after the trial was over. That kind of behavior was pretty outrageous. Maybe that's why people turned away from her when these kinds of things were circulated about after a period of time.

Too bad it's 'hearsay' and that couldn't be told in court. I imagine the gasps that would go up in the whole courtroom. I wonder if the jury would have still felt she was so innocent.

People say mean and cruel things all the time, especially spoiled little girls, (or big girls for that matter) and don't plan a murder. It's called venting, the "I hate you" and the "I wish you were dead" etc. I think everyone has done it at some time or another, and luckily haven't been involved in that person's murder investigation! Or worse become a suspect!
