Barrels

In the trial testimony of Captain Philip Harrington, (page 552 in Book One by Harry, Stef and Kat; page 587 in original transcript) Robinson refers to there being barrels in the cellar, "vinegar barrels, or something of that kind".

Would these be empty barrels Andrew had acquired to use for another purpose? A household would not use that much vinegar themselves, I don't think.

I'm thinking that maybe Andrew knew a storekeeper who gave him his empties.

At the inquest Charles Sawyer talks about buying vinegar from Andrew Borden.

"Q. Were you acquainted with Mr. Borden?
A. Yes Sir I knew him, not intimately; I had had some business with him.
Q. Did you visit the family?
A. No Sir, I was not in the habit. I have been there in the house. I used to go there once in a while to make some little purchases in vinegar and stuff."

I wonder if the vinegar was a product of the Borden farm in Swansea, like apple cider vinegar? If so, its interesting in that teetotaling household that they made vinegar ,which from what I've been reading, starts out as an alcohol product.
