Memorial Day - 2007

Post by william »

During the latter days of World War II, I was confined in an Army Field Hospital. Six soldiers, burn victiims, were brought into the hospital They were the only survivors from an Allied oil depot in northern Africa that had been bombed by German planes. During that evening the screams of these men prevented any possibility of sleep in the ward.

By daybreak all was quiet - they had expired during the night.

Thank you for your heart wrenching story. God Bless you and thank you for serving our country. It's not easy to leave everything behind & go fight for your beliefs and our safety. It is a reminder that Freedom is not Free.

Thank you William- so we don't forget.

I met a Veteran with a Purple Heart today! And tomorrow is his 59th Wedding Anniversary!

I saw a reality show last night and the veteran in the VA Hospital said: "There is no Free in Freedom. Freedom comes with a price."

William- Thanks for sharing that story, horrible as it may be, the very least we can do is to never forget all the sacrifices that were made!!!
Your story will help me to never forget.

Yes, thank you, William, for sharing your story and your service to our country and reminding us what Memorial day is all about. I have heard first hand accounts from my family members that have been in military service from WWI on up to Desert Storm, quite an eye-opener. Thank you to all our men and women that have served.

Hi Susan,

You now have 1892 posts on the Forum.

Hmm . . . that number seems familiar but I cannot put my finger on it!

Wow, I had not even noticed, thank you for pointing that out to me, William. Too cool. Its too bad that it didn't happen on August 4th, now that really would have been a Twilight Zone moment.
