Jerry Hadley, Tenor

Post by 1bigsteve »

I read this morning that Tenor Jerry Hadley shot himself in his home. Evidently he had a lot of trouble in recent years. The doctors say he has severe brain damage and don't expect him to make it. He was discovered in the '70's by Beverly Sills who died last week.

I think it is sad that a guy, especially one with his talent, would choose to take his own life. I hope he pulls through.

I had never heard of him until last year when he was arrested for driving drunk when he was actually sitting in his parked car resting. Evidently he had a battle with depression and was facing bankruptcy.

We all have problems but it seems such a waste that a guy would feel his problems can only be solved by blowing a hole through his head with an air rifle. He is only 55 and a good looking guy. If he lives, which I doubt, he'll be a vegetable with real problems. It's such a shame. The poor guy. Many people who survive a suicide attempt appreaciate life much more. If they could only see that before they pull the trigger...

I guess you know that he has died. I vaguely remember the name. I think I may have seen him in something at the Met (three French pieces in one program by Poulenc, Ravel and Satie), but I'm not sure it was him.

I agree that it's too bad he thought there was no other way.

Yes, I heard yesterday that he had died. I didn't know anything about him but for some reason or other I kept track of this sad story. It's been bothering me. The doctors knew right off that he was not going to make it. The CAT Scans and x-rays showed massive brain damage. I'm sure his family and friends were going through hell waiting. I often wonder what his last thought was while he was squeezing that trigger. Whatever it was he is at peace now. I'm tempted to have my signature engraved and placed on my desk as a reminder that bad times come and go. Help is always out there when we feel the weight of the world is on our shoulders. I wish his family well. I understand what they are feeling. It is such a sad situation.

Rest in peace, Jerry.
