hatchet on crowe barn roof
Does anybody know what happened to the hatchet found on the Crowe Barn roof behind the Borden house in June 1893? Were any tests done?
Since a deposit of gilt metal was found in Abby's wound, some believe the murder weapon was a newer hatchet. The one found on the neighbor's
barn roof was also considered to be a new or ornamental hatchet.
Just curious as to its whereabouts and whether or not it was ever tested for blood.

There's a topic around here somewhere addressing the Crowe Barn hatchet with news articles attached.
Also, I read recently in an editorial, written some time after the trial, that the hatchet was tested at some cost to the State and I don't know the results. (I recall something like $200.) Of course, it may not be true- it was a later news item.
I'll look around. Anybody else?

The thread with the newspaper articles that Kat posted can be found here:

We discussed the hatchet on the roof for a while and then the thread took off in a different direction (what's new) and the balance was devoted to paper logs.

I've always suspected that lizzie used the hatchet on Abby, threw it up on the roof, was preparing to leave to go into town and then had Andrew mess up her plans by coming home too early. I think she then went into the kitchen to get the meat cleaver, did him in(hence the cleanly cut eyeball), washed it clean, and then returned it to the drawer in the kitchen.
