What would Lizzie Do?
I hope this hasn't been covered. For some reason, I find myself wondering what Lizzie would have been like if she had lived in our time (vs) her time. Maybe because I have been reading Engstrom's book and, in it, Lizzie is always making such a fuss over more independent women. I know this is TOTAL speculation only, but surely she would have taken advantage of the choices available now...
She would had left her fathers home and taken one of her own.
She would have had a job...if not a career. I wonder what field? I imagine she could be pretty sharp minded in business. Despite her church work, I wouldn't see her ultimately in one of the helping professions. Maybe she'd just be another Paris? (just kidding)

Good question, Terrie. I think Lizzie would have become involved in business, maybe start her own company, traveled a lot and became involved in the art world. I feel Lizzie had an appreciation for beautiful things and it would have showed. She also would have been a person "on the go" and probably living in or near New York. She could have succeeded early in life on her own and would not have killed her parents for the money, if she even did.

Oh, I definitely picture Lizzie as a business woman, married to her work. There are two careers for her that keep on popping up in my mind over and over. Either Lizzie would own and operate her own travel agency, using her extensive knowledge of her own travels to help her clients have the best vacations. Or, she would be the owner of her own real estate business where she would show exclusive multimillion dollar properties to the select few.

You know, Doug, outside of the fact that Leona Helmsley just passed away, I actually tried that on as a potential fit for Lizzie; Lizzie as head of some vast hotel chain, nope, I couldn't see it. I also tried seeing Lizzie as some sort of female version of Donald Trump and it just didn't feel right.
Kat....
, you forgot the More 120 cigarette, you know, those long, thin, brown ones. Great fake foto! If Lizzie ever moved to Beverly Hills, she'd fit right in.
I actually pictured Lizzie, knowing her views on temperance and such, as being a gum chewer instead of smoker. Just chawing and cracking that gum like a cow with its cud, she seems like she would have a lot of nervous energy in a job of that caliber. Oooo, though I do see her as having a addiction to lattes from Starbucks, forget the one cup in the morning, never two as per Bridget. What kind of car do you think she would drive though? A powder blue Rolls Royce? A navy blue Mercedes? An electric blue BMW? Though I think whatever she would drive, it would definitely be a convertible!

Car? Hmm... Okay, try this out: a midnight blue Lincoln Continental convertible with white sidewall tires (say 1961 model or so) chauffer-driven, of course!
I staid the night for shelter at a farm behind the mountains, with a mother and son - two "old-believers." They did all the talking...

I think she would have loved the computer. Don't think she would have ever married. I think she would have traveled with all her money. She probably would have added to her millons and had fun with. Given to the arts and theater and the aspca and animals organations.

WOW ---what a great photo of Leonizzie! Thansk Kat!
I do not think she'd marry, either... and can't see her as a mother, except to cats.
For some reason, I think she'd be drawn to the science... I can see her doing something in a lab coat with a lot of power, money, and autonomy...a pharmicist? a nuclear biologist?
Or...maybe an eccentric millionaire who hides out and writes occasional columns for Vanity Fair.
If she did kill her parents, I'd see her becoming like Ann Woodward after Billy's murder...not a pretty sight.
And driving a black Bentley with an LB license plate on the front...

If her father and step-mother are still alive:
I think she would have moved out of her father's house as soon as she graduated from high school or turned 18 years of age, that is if her father didn't kick her out because of her demanding ways. She would live in an expensive apartment, with plans to save up enough money to buy a expensive house, which would never happen because she is lazy and spends her money faster than she can make it. I can see her working in an art gallery or library. She would not marry, for fear of having to compromise her desires in life for her husband's desires in life; I don't see her as having children or wanting children as they would take too much energy to rise and they would prevent her from obtaining her heart's desires.
If her father and step-mother are killed by Lizzie:
I think she would be bidding her time behind bars and the key thrown away.
If her father and step-mother are killed by an outsider:
I think she would be locked up in prison, because in today's world she would have been convicted of conspiracy to commit murder.

I think Lizzie would be an animal rights activist, maybe on the board of the Humane Society or in a paid position. If she was alive today, I picture her picketing Michael Vick down in Atlanta, writing letters on behalf of pitbulls everywhere. Harrassing the NFL commissioner to ban Vick for life from football. I see her taking names and kicking butt on behalf of animals. For their need is great and there are so few who care for them.
The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
