A sensitive issue

I'm curious about all of you interesting people...

There was a topic on interests people of this forum had, and several said the paranormal. I was wondering how many of you consider yourselves sensitive.

Personally, although I've got great interest in this area, (not to mention the fact that I go out of my way to experience "active" places), I have rarely felt or sensed anything out of the ordinary. I've concluded I must not be very sensitive.

I consider myself somewhat sensitive, I grew up in a haunted house and most incidents were around me.

Liz, what things did you experience growing up?

I had a friend share with me recently that her daughter had been seeing a figure in her room and it was so unsettling for her that she refused to sleep in the room anymore and changed rooms with her brother. Since the room change, she's been fine.

I've had so many things happen that I do believe I have some ability, altho I have absolutely no control over it. I'm not so sure one is supposed to have any control. Strongest things have been passing on messages to people from lost loved ones & hearing from those I myself have lost. These are intensely emotional experiences, just wonderful & have given me no doubt we do continue on in some way after we pass.

Just this past w/e I was on my computer while 1/2 watching a show about psychics who help detectives. They were speaking of a girl's murder & I said the name "John". About 5 mins later, they identified the murderer who's name was John. I would love to be able to help police investigations like that, altho my abilities are no where near strong enough & as I said, I seem to have no control---things happen when they want to, not when I request them.

Never have seen a ghost (do not want to) altho my mother claims to have seen many. Legend has it, our female line is inclined toward "sensitiveness". My great-grandmother was called "a witch" & I interpret that to mean she made predictions & freaked people out (esp since she was a Baptist!)

I believe ghosts as we commonly see them are trapped, earth-bound entities & are generally negative. They do need help & there are people who can help them move on. Still, I believe strongly in NOT using things like Ouija boards because they attract these really negative things.

My experiences have all been extremely positive (just how I want to keep them!). I have no desire to go around messing with the negative stuff.

Cheryl, I've seen light spectrums, heard voices when I was alone in the house(one i felt the air off of) seen the cat hiss at air, had things thrown at me by unseen forces, been pinned to bed which was horrifying, heard footsteps when alone, stepped into cold spots. Just about everything.

Yes, I'd say you have experienced it all! Other than the friend I mentioned whose daughter had seen a figure, there is only one other person I know that has experienced something paranormal...and that was the sensation of being "pinned down." That's interesting that you've felt a similar situation.

Tina-Kate, I had to laugh about the Baptist comment...my kids attend a Baptist school so I can well imagine why your great-grandmother may have freaked a few out.

I completely agree with the Ouji board thing...I firmly believe that
that type of material (and others like it, palm-reading, tarot cards, etc)
invites evil.

Not sure I completely agree with ghosts being trapped, earth-bound souls who need help getting to the other side. I've entertained the idea that the plane could be hell. I've also entertained the idea that they are God's angels for His purpose. But I appreciate your perspective.

The being held down is known as sleep paralysis. It's a physical anamoly.

TinaKate and I have corresponded quite frequently, and for several years, about the paranormal and her gifts. I think her quick explanation was made for brevitys sake- to know her longer is to have a better understanding of what she's saying.

Oh, I didn't mean to make a comment about Baptists---I meant that she was very religious herself & highly unlikely to be indulging in the likes of Wicca, so being called "a witch" was not at all accurate. She was Victorian & likely "psychics" weren't discussed or acknowledged as much back then & "witch" was the handiest label. "Second sight" I think was in the vernacular. My grandmother used that expression at least & she was about the same age as the late Queen Mother.

That's interesting re the sleep paralysis, Kat. I'd never heard that. Either way that sounds terrifying!

The things I've experienced have never scared me. I suppose that's why I wouldn't want to see a ghost---that would scare me.

I don't want to see one either.

My little theory is that more often a skeptic might experience something before a *believer* does. I think the element of shock and fear feeds the entity. Kind of like a bad practical joke.

I think Cheryl was OK with the Baptist reference- I shouldn't have chimed in like that- it might have complicated things- sorry.

That's OK. I try to watch it as I'm forever offending people when I don't mean to. Doesn't help I often see the humorous side of everything. Working in a church...I'm forever clarifying myself!

Oh my goodness, I wasn't the least bit offended -- I meant it when I said that I laughed. I really appreciate you women replying to my question. I am drawn to stories about the unexplainable, and to people that sense things I can't.
