It's sad to see places like Rocky Point closed.

We had a similar park when I was a lad called "Playland" in Rye, N.Y. There was also "Palisades Park" in New Jersey. Both, I believe, are gone now.

People began to stay home when TV sets became common and amusement parks, drive-in theaters and a lot of movie houses simply died a slow death.

I was there myself as a kid, but, never went to Palisades Park. I wonder if the giant "P" is still there on the cliff face? You could see it when you were on the Circle Line Tour up the Hudson.

I do remember seeing the Palisades Park sign and I loved the Circle Line ride. That's a must-do when you visit NYC.

Funny you mention that. The past couple of weeks they cleared a good portion of Lincoln Park and bulldozed a good part of the park. Now, you can see the old Fun House remains from RT6. As I drove by I thought about how sad it is. Just behind the the old Fun House building the old roller coaster still scrapes the sky. But, I'm afraid not for long. Work has begun. The old Park is slated for condos

I remember going to Playland at Rye Beach as a kid. There was a fun house with a huge slide. When I went back as an adult, I couldn't find it. A woman told me it had burnt down in 1959. There still is more than enough left.

You're welcome, Harry. From what I recall, part of that Tom Hanks movie Big was filmed at Playland, but, that was in the '80s.

I found a site that has defunct amusement parks of New England, history, early photos and current ones. If you click the link you can view the portion of the site devoted to Lincoln Park. Very sad.

mb: Can you take pictures of the roller coaster and fun house? It'd be real interesting to see.

Here's something I can't figure out. When I was little, my family went to this amusement park in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was called "Coney Island". It really was. I don't hear anything about it right now. Was it changed to another one, like King's Island? It was not Cedar Point.

If I were you, Harry, I'd be careful how I asked a girl if she wanted to go to Playland with you.

When Stefani was here earlier in the year we both went over to and throughout Lincoln Park......... or through what very little that was left, and it was not much. But, the entire Roller coaster was still intact, as it was a couple of weeks ago.

The Fun house was just a shell.

There's a couple of small buildings still left, but just profiles of what they once were. There were tall trees and brush all around where none stood before. As a child I went to Lincoln Park almost every Sunday, still I had a difficult time ID'ing buildings and ruins.

While there I took many photos.

I let Stefani take my camera so she could download all the photos.

When I got the camera back I deleted all the shots and forgot to download them into my computer. Hopefully, she has them all in her computer and perhaps will do a piece in the Hatchet about it.
