Lizzie's Rose Bush

The other day I ran across a line that said the Bordens had a rose bush in their back yard. I wonder what kind of roses, and what color.

Those topiary trees near their front door entrance in the Liz Montgomery movie were nice!

The June 26, 1893 Boston Globe reported this in its description of 92 Second Street:

"... Passing by the house, nothing was to be seen on the other side save the green, green grass in the yard and a beautiful rose bush, its flowers of red contrasting with the dismal color of the building against which they bloomed. ..."

Did we ever come to a conclusion in the past about the rose bush? That it was possibly the climbing vine looking thing on the side of the house? Heres a pic of it from the LBVM&L site:

Based on Harry's post of the June 26 Boston Globe the red roses bloomed AGAINST the building so I would say it is safe to believe that yes...that viney thing against the building is the roses.

That picture has me wondering now though if that gazebo looking structure was covered with possible grape vines? After all, there was an awful lot of vinegar barrels in the Borden cellar.

Well, it's supposed to be a pansy, right? Else why am I "collecting" them?

But the white rose is in that poem she liked!

I collect pansy-themed stuff too.

That's a flower, because of that photo of her pansy brooch at the throat, I associate with her the most.

Someone wrote in a Lizzie book that "posies" were her favorite. I can't remember what I was reading very recently that said white roses were her favorite. It's the first time I ever heard that.

I collect pear stuff, too.
