You may be right, Ellen. I have heard a couple of different causes...
Several web sites have this information: Evel Knievel had been ill for years after contracting Hepatitis C from a blood transfusion many years ago. He also suffered from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

I read on a couple of web sites that Billy Rundle, a longtime friend and promoter, stated that Evel had trouble breathing at his Clearwater condominium on Friday and died before an ambulance could get him to a hospital. This statement adds credibility to the web site that states Knievel died from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis:

I guess it is going to take some time to get an official cause of death. It would have been nice if Evel's web site had stated a cause of death along with the announcement of his death, although whoever posted this notice would not have had the results of an autopsy at the time the announcement was made.
