"The Legend.." movie - free!

While idly browsing "Lizzie Borden" on Google, I came across "The Legend of Lizzie Borden" with Elizabeth Montgomery that you can watch for free.
I don't know who put it on there, or how any copyrights were or were not worked out, but it's there for viewing with just a click of the mouse. I watched up to the part where they start the outdoor funeral scene. I am guessing that the entire movie is on there, maybe with no commercials.

I've watched the first part several times. I noticed that when Emma sees Alice Russell for the first time at the house, it's shown how good a friend Alice is to Emma. I hadn't caught that before. That movie is just plain good.

The online video is a little grainy, but it woiks! Well, my link doesn't woik. But Harry provided a workable link a couple posts down. Thanks, Harry!

Yes, thanks, Harry! I knew my link didn't work - I thought it was because of the URL not having "www" in it. What's Harry's got that mine don't got? It's a mystery to me.

It's very odd why Augusta's URL isn't colored blue.

I simply copied and pasted Augusta's URL and it went to the site. Then I copied the URL from the site and pasted that in my forum message.

Computers? Bah....

Well, it makes sense to me. We just made an episode of "Lucy Posts a Link".

(It didn't underline itself or turn blue when I wrote that post, so I underlined it myself. Then I think it was beyond help. I think when I posted it, it would have turned blue and underlined by itself (?).)

I hadn't watched that movie in years. Also never realized Gloria Stuart from Titanic was the store customer who saw Lizzie steal the ax. Very interesting.

nbcatlover - I didn't know Gloria Stuart (sp?) was in that one scene! I'll have to watch it again.

I always loved those rose topiary trees lining the Borden walk in the movie and was disappointed when there weren't any out there at the real house, and thru reading pretty much figured out they never had any of those.

"Alice Russell" says the same line to Lizzie and then shortly later to Emma. Something like, "I'll stay as long as you need me." It sounds so gallant! I wonder if in real life, she said things like that often - self-serving statements to a degree. (Maybe she never really said that at all, tho. That movie has a lot of historical accuracy to it, but it ain't 100%.)

Wow, I absolutely love this movie. I remember watching it in the 70's with a big bowl of popcorn. I hope they don't try to remake it, I don't think they can get any better than Elizabeth Montgomery. It seems "Hollywood" has no original ideas lately, they keep re-making movies from shows that were popular back in my day like Speed Racer, Spiderman, Brady Bunch, Adams Family etc.... Can't they have an original idea?
Anyway, is it legal to copy or burn this movie to a cd?

It's good to see you online Smudgeman. I'll never forget when I saw that movie for the first time. I never knew Elizabeth Montgomery could scare people so well with just that one "look" of hers.

Well...probably not.

But... If you use the latest version of RealPlayer, it is possible (and technically legal, else the file in question would be "locked" - unavailable for download.) Certain media files on c-span sites for example are available for viewing but not downloading, while others are available to both view and download. Two examples of these - one each type - are http://www.americanpresidents.org/presi ... umber=4and http://www.c-span.org/presidentiallibraries/

None of the files on the former are downloadable, but most if not all the files on the latter site are downloadable via RealPlayer's newest version.

Could it be done? Ayup... Might take a bit of work though converting formats. You'd need to convert from whatever the GoogleVideo player format is to mpeg, avi or the like, but yes, it is possible. If I recollect right this link has been 'round the park at least one time, but perhaps in a different format - Quicktime?

Get it while the gettin's fair, for come the morn it might not be there is probably the best advice.

I know for a fact of at least two items formerly available for download on the Google Books end of it which are (for reason or reasons unknown) no longer available there. There used to be two different editions of the Fall River Directories from 1880 and 1882. Where are they now? Gone.

I'm glad to have gotten them when I did!

Minor update perhaps of interest: The video format in question here is .flv. All you need do is find a program that will convert flv files (Flash video) to something else like avi or mp2. The next step - well, from there you can go anywhere - up to and including dvd format. The quality of the end product is the only open question.

(The film in flv format by the way tops out at 227 megabytes.)

One thing I find impressive about this movie is how Eliz. Montgomery can actually make herself look like Lizzie in some shots...almost as if she studied photos of her before playing the role.

I agree Tina-Kate, she had some looks in this movie. One that stands out to me was her facial expressions while she was cleaning up after the murders, brilliant. I also love the way she looks while under the influence of the bromo-caffiene, the flashbacks, she did an excellent job portraying Lizzie.

That's true - this movie really shouldn't be remade. But they did leave out Uncle Morse and the Bordens being sick on Tuesday nite. I'd like to have another done that featured Lizzie's life after the trial, the Tilden-Thurber affair, up until her death.

I was watching the original "The Out-of-Towners" the other nite with Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis. I really don't understand why that movie was re-made (with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn). The remake was okay. But the original was great. I didn't see a need for it at all.

I think Elizabeth Montgomery was one of the true greats. Every role I saw her in, she was believable as the character.

Please give to the Edwin Porter grave marker fund.
