Nance O'Neil from the movie Transgression
I have posted to YouTube a 2 minute scene with Nance O'Neil from the movie "Transgression". She plays the sister spying on her brother's wife. That is Kay Francis (the wife) in the opening shot and the actor (Nance's brother) is Paul Cavanaugh. You get a good idea of her voice and height.
Enjoy.

Harry, that was great! Thanks so much for posting! I'll watch this many times, I'm sure.
There was also a nice tribute to Nance on another Youtube that came up when I pulled Harry's up. Beautifully done. Part of the musc was "Somewhere in Time", which was real good with Nance's photos.
The movie "Cimmaron" came on tv recently, but I could not pick out Nance O'Neil in it. Does anyone know what role she played? She has so many different looks.

Harry, thank you for posting this - it was so cool to hear her voice. For whatever reason, I thought her voice would have been higher in pitch.

OMG, Steve, hearing Lizzie's voice would be beyond my wildest dreams! It is interesting that both of us thought Nance's voice would be higher in pitch.

Too funny...I thought her voice would be lower. I've seen several references describing her as having a low voice.twinsrwe @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 12:23 am wrote:OMG, Steve, hearing Lizzie's voice would be beyond my wildest dreams! Tina-Kate - that is funny!
I haven't seen any references in regards to Nance's voice, so the higher pitch is just what I 'thought' her voice would sound like.

Those "early" stage stars really had to shout the house down to be heard up in the second balcony, and many of them wore their voices to a dull edge. If you listen carefully to Ethel Barrymore and Helen Hayes in later years, they're definitely altos. Then, there's Marie Dressler, who was a contemporary of N O'N's.
Of course, hormones-- or, the lack thereof, as time goes by-- could have come into play.
And gin and cigarettes and goodness knows what other earthly delights.
Vivien Leigh was primarily a stage actress. Listen to her as Scarlett, then listen to her as Mrs. Stone.
Could be, easily, that N O'N spoke in a higher register when she met Miss Lizbeth.
