Lizzie spending the dough

Post by snokkums »

I was reading thru some old post and came across an post. It stated how Lizzie left the New Bedford courthouse to come back to Fall River. She didn't take the train back, but carriage that is call a landau. Apparently, a Landau carriage is like the Lincoln continental of carriages.

So I am wondering a bit if maybe Lizzie did get a little crazy and live "high off the hog a bit. Maybe that was one of the reasons Emma left. Lizzie was spending the dough!

I have always felt that money was the primary reason for the killings and Lizzie, once she had the money, was not going to sit in "poverty." I also feel living "high on the hog" was Lizzie's way of "sticking it" to Fall River society. I think the break up between Lizzie and Emma was probably about the money but may also have been about Emma's knowledge of Lizzie's guilt, if she was guilty. Perhaps Lizzie threatened Emma's life to keep Emma's mouth shut? I have wondered about that as well.

I have often wondered just how Emma left. Was it a big fight between her and Lizzie and she stormed out? Did she have it planned and Lizzie knew before hand? Did she sneek out while Lizzie was sleeping or maybe while Lizzie was away? I can't imagine what it was like for any length of time that the 2 were together knowing Emma was leaving. Talk about a strained atmosphere.

Emma being with Lizzie all those years, I can't imagine her making big plans to leave. Something was the catalyst and made it so unbearable for Emma she must of just lost it.
If Emma knew alot more than she told and they had a big fight (and we all know when you're argueing we say things we shouldn't) could Lizzie have put in a veiled threat? It could have made Emma afraid to be with her in the same house.

I, too, think that Lizzie living "high off the hog" was her way of sticking it to the high society of Fall River. And I think she enjoyed it too. Think Emma was more of the spend thrift, while Lizzie liked to go crazy shopping. I think that reason and the fact that Lizzie was throwing parties and stuff for her actor friends probably made Emma leave.
