The fascination with Lizzie and the Borden case.
I was reading an article about Lizzie and the case and it got me to thinking. This situation happened over 110 years ago and we are still interested in it and fascinated by.
I was just wondered why you all are in the case. For me, it's a bunch of reasons. I mean, why would a well brought up Lady go axe her parents to death. What kind of hatred did she have for her step mother and how deep it was it. Was the motive to kill her father all about greed or was there more to that?
And, how could the jury find her guilty when seemingly everything pointed to her? Did they just believe a well brought up young lady can't do such a horrible crime?

A big part of my fascination is that I don't really believe Lizzie did it. There are too many mysterious facts involved and surrounding the days and weeks before the murders. And those questions are what keep me reading. I know I'll never figure it out, but it is captivating to think of the possible theories that may be close to the truth of what actually took place.

I'm not sure why the case is so facinating for me. Perhaps just the mystery of it...how she did it and how she got away with it.
I personally think Lizzie did it. I think it was a crime of passion and opportunity. I don't think anyone else was involved, but I think those closest to her knew what happened. I also think Emma tried to cover for her as much as she could, and she may have realized her years of fueling the fire against Abby was what drove Lizzie to murder.

When I assume Lizzie did the crimes I go back and forth on the issue of whether she did it alone or with someone. Currently I lean toward the latter but for the life of me I can't imagine whom it would be.

I like the case because no matter which avenue you go down you always seem to run into a dead end. I lean toward Lizzie either doing it herself or working with a killer. Either way I'm sure Lizzie knew who did it but I can't seem to get the pieces together in such a way that I can see the whole pattern. There are details that are missing. I would love to find out what they are.

I'm not sure why this case fascinates me. I think it is probably the mystery of it. It's like a huge puzzle that, so far, has not been solved my anyone. I also go back and forth on Lizzie doing the deed by herself or with someone else's help; although, I lean heavily on Lizzie acting alone. Lizzie could not prove that she did not do it nor did she prove that she had nothing to do with these murders. If she didn't do it, then I firmly believe she knew who did.

I'm reasonably certain Lizzie did it, and most likely alone. She had motive, means, and opportunity. Anyone else acting independently also had the biggest obstacle of all, in addition to all Lizzie had, and that was Lizzie herself. It seems completely unreasonable that someone could dodge Lizzie and escape unnoticed.
The case is fascinating because it has never been solved, and likely never will be without more information or evidence.

It seems that no matter what avenue you go down, it always seems to point to Lizzie. She might have had help, but she is the one that swung the axe.
I think for me it's just the gruesomeness of it and how could such a well brought up lady do such a horrible thing.

…………a horrible thing; twice!!!snokkums @ Mon Jan 19, 2009 5:00 am wrote: I think for me it's just the gruesomeness of it and how could such a well brought up lady do such a horrible thing.
And with a good amount of time in between….how does one keep, maintain, or rekindle that kind of anger after the first killing? Shouldn’t the person be spent?
I too go back and forth. There are so many pieces missing, the forensics was too new and limited and many, many questions that should have been asked, just simply weren’t.
The case went cold before the gavel hit.
This case fascinates me because it’s never been solved. Its fluid; just when I think I have an understanding as to how it may have been done….boom….it disappears….leaving me still asking…….how was it done and how did the person(s) get away clean?

A few things that stand out that make it a very real possibility that others committed this murder (IMHO) are the fact that Uncle John went out to the farm on the eve of the murders and collected the eggs, making sure that nobody was going to interupt anything that might be happening at the house the next morning. Uncle John lived with people who were well versed in butchering and he could have easily hired someone to take care of the "problem" and from what I gather (in their minds anyway), Abby and Andrew presented a problem to Lizzie, Emma, John and maybe even Dr Bowen as well. I believe, based on reading the various testimonies of all of the names I just listed, that they were hiding facts and covering up what they knew.snokkums @ Sat Jan 17, 2009 7:00 am wrote:If yod don't think Lizzie did it, who do you think did it?
Personally, I think that there were other people invovled with the murders, along with Lizzie. Don't think she did it all by herself.
I know Lizzie must have assisted whomever committed the crimes, and that makes her guilty as well, however, I don't really think she did all of this on her own as many believe. I respect others opinions, I just think there's no way she did it and everyone else just went along with her (really lame) story (stories). I just don't see it.
