this date in history August 4
I was watching something on the history channel titled "Who betrayed Anne Frank?", and I found something interesting.
The murders happened on August 4 1892. Anne Frank and family were betrayed on the same day, only in 1944. Thought that was kind of wierd. I never payed that close attention to it but it was like the fact hit me between the eyes.

Thanks, Snokkums, and glad you posted this, as I was thinking about posting a "this day in history" re something I just discovered (lagging behind, as usual): That it's our new prez's birthday, too!
Remember, too, that Anne Frank's Father survived the atrocities. I'm not sure about other family members. Would have to look that up.

On a happier note, Miep Gies, one of the people who helped the Franks, celebrated her 100th birthday on February 15th of this year.

Fargo, not to change the subject but, October 27, 2004 was the day of Stefani's lecture at the church. Stefani, Kat and I were there as well as a few other forum members. Did you attend Stefani's talk? If so we were ships that passed in the night. We didn't stay at the house that trip but have since.Fargo @ Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:05 am wrote:On the night of October 27th 2004 I mentioned to some of the other guests in the Parlor at 92 second street how Marilyn munroe died on August 4th 1962. Same day, 70 years later.
Your mention of that date made me dig out this thread:

I never knew about Stefani's talk at the church that night or of this forum until after I returned from my vacation.
I do believe I was in the gift shop, in the Leary press, while all of you were on tour in the house. On the mourning of Oct 27th I was talking to Dee in the Gift shop while waiting for the next tour, when the tour guide came into the gift shop and said to Dee "they want to see the basement, what should I do?" I don't recall the exact time but it was in the mourning. I had already paid for the next tour.
When I reserved Bridget's room while waiting for the tour, Dee talked me out of taking the next tour because a tour was included with the overnight stay. I wish now I had taken it, if I had I am pretty sure we would have met. Dee did have to do a bit to talk me out of it though, because I had waited so long to come to Fall River that I wanted to see the house now.
I didn't put it together until after joining the forum and reading Kat's article in the hatchet. I realized it was the same date. Kat said in that article that all of you got to see the basement which was not part of the daytime tour. I talked with Kat about it here somewhere on the forum.
I recall the date because I arrived in fall river the day before, on Oct 26. My grandmother died Oct 26th 1980 and I did not want to remember the date of her passing as the first night that I ever stayed at the Lizzie Borden house. That night I stayed at the Super 8 in somerset.
We may have missed each other at Oak Grove as well. I was there at about 2 pm. I noticed two vehicles leaving the Borden plot as I pulled up. I don't recall exactly what kind of vehicles they were except that the vehicle that was behind the first one was a compact 4 door car. Whoever was sitting in the back right seat, closed the right rear door as I pulled up behind. I guess the door did not close right because this person opened the door again and re-closed it. At first while trying to recall the vehicle I thought it was a pt cruiser but now I don't think so. The pt cruiser I was thinking of was what one of the guests had parked at the Lizzie house that night.
I remember forum member Darthvader's dark blue Impala rental car. I had a silver Buick rental car.

Yes, I'm afraid that was us touring the house. I remember meeting Doug (not Doug65oh) another forum member and his wife later in the Leary Press room. They told us they had been waiting for our tour to finish as well. To say the least LeeAnn was incredibly kind to us. Dee, too.
That was first trip to Fall River and the house. Been back 4 times since and hope to make it up there this year.
I believe we had a gray rental car but can't say for sure. We were at Oak Grove with Sherry and her family. They had a van.
It would have been nice to have met you. Perhaps sometime in the future.

Have you ever read her book "Anne Frank Remebered"? It's a wonderful book.Constantine @ Mon Mar 09, 2009 6:22 pm wrote:On a happier note, Miep Gies, one of the people who helped the Franks, celebrated her 100th birthday on February 15th of this year.

I intended to make it an annual vacation, but so far it has not worked that way. I am working on it for this year but it's too soon to tell. It would be nice to meet you and others.
When Forum member Darthvader and I figured out here on the forum, that we had stayed at the house on the same night, it seemed unreal to me. I never thought I would ever meet up with another guest from the same night.
That was the only trip I ever made to Nova Scotia and to New England.
My family arrived in Massachusetts from Britain in the 1600's. My family left New England for Nova Scotia in the 1700's. Then my family left Nova Scotia for my hometown, here in 1910.
I had a funny feeling when I got off of the plane in Nova Scotia, I knew I would.
I had a funny feeling when I crossed the New Hampshire border into Massachusetts, again, I knew I would.
