He was a gentleman and a class guy.
Rest in peace, Bill. I'll miss you.

I know I ask perfection of a quite imperfect world
And fool enough to think that's what I'll find

I have been thinking about him a lot lately. He keeps entering my thoughts. I guess he wanted me to know he is around.

So it's confirmed then? How sad. If we may take comfort in anything, it should I think be these things: That Bill had a long life, the past several years of which he so kindly shared with us, gracefully imparting wisdom and humor whenever the notion struck. But even as we mourn the loss of our dear and faithful friend we might remember that at last he's reunited with she whom he so well and truly adored for so many years - Marjorie I think her name was. Bill shared a photo of a young Marjorie with me a few years back. She was beautiful of course, but what struck me most was the way he spoke of her - with delicate pride and wonder, even after all those years so much like the lucky young feller he was the day they discovered each other. So the hands of time have come full circle and they're together once again in youthful eternity. What more could any of us ask for Bill than that?
Peace, Joy, and the blessings of God be unto you, thou good and faithful friend, with thanks for your presence in our lives.

I staid the night for shelter at a farm behind the mountains, with a mother and son - two "old-believers." They did all the talking...

Though I never met William, I had a good feeling about him.
He appeared upright, ethical, moral, and a gentle man. Many times he was the voice of logic, rationale, common sense and principle here on the forum and whose opinions were always worthy of merit. I for one will miss him. The news of his departure moved me to write the poem below.
“SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE WILLIAM. PERHAPS THERE WE WILL MEET, SHAKE HANDS AND BECOME GOOD FRIENDS.”
AS THE WAVES ALL BOW AWAY
(for William)
I wore this lonely vessel
by the breakwater and the bay
though winds were sometime heavy
still I had a pleasant stay
But now I start my journey
in the late hour of my day
with the harbor slowly fading
as the waves all bow away
And the swells, the swells they carry
my soul with God to stay
and this sea strips me of worry
to steam on through the spray
Now my soul is sailing softly
far’from where my body lay
with my Maker at the tiller
these breakers all obey
and I no longer need a pilot
as the waves all bow away.

It's sad when we lose one of our own. William will always live on in my mind as St. Nick because of his avatar here. That brings me joy. We will all join William soon enough in that afterlife Borden Forum hosted by Lizzie herself.
In memory of....Laddie Miller, Royal Nelson and Donald Stewart, Lizzie Borden's dogs. "Sleeping Awhile."

It's very strange. This fall when I missed him on the forum I had a dream that I went to see him at his house to make sure he was ok. A younger relative was there and William was sitting there very quietly. What was strange was that he looked just like his picture that I just saw for the first time yesterday.

The first sentence of William's very last post here was "Let the dead rest."
Rest well and in peace, William.

Bill was a good friend of mine. He was all those things that you all say. Doug, what a beautiful eulogy. Just beautiful. What a lovely poem, mb.
Angel, your dream was incredible! And he didn't have a common face.
I had our church light the sanctuary candle for him last Sunday. It burned through the service in the main church just for him. I hope he felt the prayers that went with it.
I will always miss this lovely, lovely man.
(Fairhaven Guy - Very interesting! He did know he was dying, but I'm not sure if he knew at the time of his post.)
