What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
Neither of "The Hatchets" has been published in a very long time. Does anyone know if Stefani Koorey is still going to bring them out?

Where have all the hatchets gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the hatchets gone ?
A long time ago
There was an announcement awhile back about more Hatchets being produced.
There are probably a lot of things on the go right now, but I am sure we will see more Hatchets in the next while.

I "googled" the publisher: "Stefani Koorey" and she is running for Mayor of Fall River so maybe she doesn't have time to do both.

Re: What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
Good day Hatchet Readers:
Stefani has been preoccupied with the Indexing of Parallel Lives. Deadline for the completion of the index for LIzzie's new book was yesterday. Presently, final touches and review of the index is happening at the FRHS at the present time and should be completed by Friday.
I would guess that this means that Parallel Lives as been completed and is ready for publication and a date for announcement of its release. Let's hope that is soon. Parallel Lives promises to be one of the best publications issued by the Fall River Historical Society and may even rival the Knowlton Papers in both content, size, and more importantly, discovery.
Concurrently, material for the Hatchet is being reviewed at the same time, but work on it has been very slow.
Since Stefani is the leading officer of the magazine, the entire publication filters through her hands for approval, design and print. The inception of the magazine begins and ends with her.
The indexing of Parallel lives is quite extensive and thorough, and has taken up most of Stefani's time, and right around the time the next issue of the Hatchet was due.
As of Friday, full focus will be given to the Hatchet for publication.
Hopefully, you should find it for sale in a couple of weeks.
Hope this helps.
(Oh yes, running for Mayor had absolutely nothing to do with the delay of the Hatchet)
Meanwhile, take out some of the old copies of the Hatchet and catch-up on anything you missed............or just read them over again. Great publication. It's worth it.
Cheers, MB

Re: What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
thanks, but I've never read one but heard they were good for extra information on the borden murders.
That issue above was in 2009. It's 2011. With all respect due, it just seems to be two years is a long time to be doing that, the index and still not get a publication out. I only say this because if she is planning to be Mayor of the city of Fall River she will have many deadlines and lots more to do than indexing one book and putting out an online magazine 4 times a year. Sorry, but I look at all things in a common sense way but some times I may not know the person involved or their limitations. I tend to evaluate work output based on people I know.

Re: What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
The Hatchet that was published above was done in 2010, but was the last issue in the year before's subscription package. I did not have subscriptions last year, nor did I accept monies for a subscription last year. This year, however, I am putting out four issues. I have not indicated the dates of release. However, since the work I was doing on the MAMMOTH Parallel Lives took up all my free time, I focused on that, knowing it would be over soon.
The editing for the first issue of 2011 is under way.
I appreciate everyone worried about the magazine! That is heartening. When something like this is done as a labor of love, it is good to know one is missed.

Thanks for the information, mbhenty and Stefani!
I've been wondering about The Hatchet, as well. I am looking forward to the publications of both The Hatchet and Parallel Lives!

Re: What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
I find that all issues of The Hatchet, regardless of how current they are, are always good for a re-read. Something new jumps out at me, every time. When this terrible economy eases up a little, I plan to order printed copies of all of them, just to be able to have them handy for reference.

Re: What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
To add a little more to what Stefani had to say:
Since meeting Stefani, I have had lots of input into the HATCHET Magazine; mostly assisting along the lines of design, photography, including content illustrations, several covers and at least one department, Writers Ink.
Since the later part of 2009 there was much discussion to where the magazine should go. We felt strongly that there was still plenty to uncover in connection with Lizzie, which would attract interest, and still more unforeseen material, such as upcoming plays, the publication of Parallel Lives, etc., which was bound to stir even more discussion, discovery and substance to fill a couple more years of publication.
Not wanting to end the HATCHET, I urged Stefani to start up THE LITERARY HATCHET, devoted specifically to fiction and poetry with an emphasis away from Lizzie, (though not exclusively) just in case the HATCHET was fazed out.
So the HATCHET was reluctantly placed in hiatus, with much talk about ending the publication and concentrating on the LITERARY HATCHET. Part of the reason such a radical approach was taken, had to do with the cost and time involved in putting out a first class elegant magazine. With a computer and the click of the mouse, one can uncover countless articles about how magazines have been struggling to continue print, and keep hard copy periodicals in circulation. Printing the Hatchet on quality paper with color illustrations and no advertisements, along with keeping the cost down, is an endeavor that singles out the Hatchet in a league of its own. For those of you who order the hard copy of the magazine, this was evident by the newer smaller size. Of course the publication of the HATCHET could not be accomplished without the wonderfully accomplished staff of writers, who year after year, continue to contribute new and fresh material.
We extend our apology to our devoted and loyal readers and subscribers on not keeping you better informed, and will venture to be more considerate in the future. It is our goal to publish 4 issues in 2011, and keep the LITERARY HATCHET alive as well.
Thanks for the questions and your unending interest.

Re: What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
Thanks for the update! i was wondering where The Hatchet had gone. I resubscribed early this year and couldn't figure out why my new copy hadn't turned up online. Now i know why :)
btw, good work with the index - a good, precise and relevant index is HARD to make and can take a long time to organise. As someone who has just finished a 65,000 word thesis, a good index can be hard to find (and bloody irritating when you find out the subject you were trying to find was indexed under a ridiculous and non-related topic heading.) Sorry, am i ranting? yes, it's all still very raw...) :)

Re: What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
Yes, I would like to have given you a more constructive notion to when the HATCHET was coming out, but right now I am wiping egg off my face.......though only from the left side of it, since I am only the courier and not the driver.
Apparently my communication of the due date above was in error....by many weeks.
I cannot speak to the delay for the magazine, and can only relay to you first hand communique as it is passed on to me.
My apology for the time line given above.
I will not attempt to give you a definite date and will only tell you that the the latest issue is complete and in design mode, and should be out soon.
I cannot reliably speak to any of the roadblocks and reason for the hold-up, and will leave that up to the publisher.
Let's hope that the publication will make its long overdue appearance soon. and that the promise to publish 4 issues this year will be a goal accomplished.
Thank you,
MB

Re: What has happened to "The Hatchets"?
hello everyone after these few years. i have a good computer/internet set up now (for a while I didn't).
i must say i am glad i'm not the only one concerned about the hatchets. though i must say that my particular concern this year has been for the LITERARY HATCHET. my work on that has been in for quite some time, but I felt certain there was a reason for the delay, that stefani was involved in something. running for mayor never crossed my mind though i must say, i'm not exactly shocked. but again, i understand it wasn't that -- it was this new book i don't know anything about yet. i didn't even know that the hatchet (as in lizzie borden journal, or whatever exactly that name change was back whenever it happened) was not done. but how apropos -- i did not finish anything for it, and i worried every now and then i would get a phone call asking for it. but no call every came. i haven't known what to think about any of this.
hello again to those i know. how do you do to those i don't.
Eugene
