LB mentioned on Horizon

Post by jamfaws »

Hello,

I uploaded this clip to youtube a few weeks back and wondered if anyone here knows what murders is he talking about when he says '16 murders in the one line'?

Cheers

Never heard that before about the Borden line. There is this published in the Fall River Daily Globe on Aug. 5, 1892

".... One well known citizen of mature years recalled that

Another Horrible Tragedy

had been enacted in the vicinity of the Borden residence, in the yard of the house occupied now by Dr. Kelly.
Between 30 and 40 years a woman named Borden had thrown her three young children into a cistern to drown and afterward jumped in and died with them. She endeavored to get her fourth child in with the rest, but the little one escaped and is now the happy mother of a prosperous family in the southern part of the city.....

This woman was a Borden by marriage only and therefore not blood related.

There was a man who was renting out the Borden murder house some years after the murders. I believe he was found in the house dead of starvation. I don't know if that is being counted as one. But 16 murders ... That could refer to one or more of many that caused more murders. The name "Borden" in Fall River is like "Smith" in many places.

If I remember, I was looking at the genelogy of Lizzie and there was a guy in the family that killed his mother or something of the sort. It was very early on in the family tree. I'll have look back at the tree, can't remember the name.

Yes, Augusta:

The guy you are speaking of, the one who died of starvation, did not live on Second Street. He lived in the Borden Ferry Street house. I think his name was Hurd. It was shortly after the trial, of the winter just after the trail. (which was in June 1893, right?)

By that time, the end of 1893, the Ferry Street property, the old Borden homestead, had reverted to Lizzie and Emma. I believe that the girls had leased the house to a French family who in turn rented the third floor (or from what I remember, a room) of the Ferry Street home to a couple. The fellow died of exposure or starvation. I would need to research to get it right. If I'm not mistaken both the fellow and his wife were drunks. (????)

I imagine, and please don't quote me, since it is just supposition on my part, that Lizzie and Emma were not the best of landlords. After leasing to the French couple they probably did very little but collect the rent. Thus, the fellow dying was probably news to them. The girls probably did not even know that this couple was living there.

But, no, it was not the Second Street Property, but Ferry Street. Hopefully, I am not mistaken. But that is the way it was.

I have found it-what I mentioned about the geneology. It was an old post of mine. But, a relative of Lizzies' (early in the family tree) Thomas Cornell was tried for killing his mother. He was found guilty.

what I am wondering if this kind of stuff doesn't run in Lizzies family. Sure seems like it.
