Fritz Weaver

Post by augusta »

I was watching a "Tales from the Darkside" recently that had Fritz Weaver in it. The series started in 1984. I wondered if he was still living, so I looked it up online. Apparently he is. His birthdate is January 19, 1926.

He is, and I have had the pleasure of speaking with him in the Olympus Diner up near 72nd Street in the Upper West Side on more than one occasion.

:bounce: OMG! OMG! OMG! You met him and talked to him a couple of times??? Did he say anything about his role as Andrew Borden? What a dream interview that would be! I'd ask him what he thought of Andrew Borden. And if he's read any Lizzie books, and if he is aware of "The Hatchet". And any anecdotes he could share about his experience doing the movie. His portrayal will be a hard act to follow. He is so ingrained (in me, at least) as Andrew. I'm so happy for you, Bob. Did you get your picture taken with him?

I saw Fritz Weaver in a Twilight Zone episode as the judge in a futuristic court and I think I saw the same Tales From The Darkside unless he was in more than one. He had a monster-child under the stairs. He is an excellent actor, a Hatchet interview would be most welcome.

Yes, xyjw, that's right! Fritz Weaver was the judge of some court of the future that proclaimed Burgess Meredith to be "obsolete" because he was a librarian. Then Burgess M. got to choose some thing about the way he was to die, and he had Fritz Weaver visit him, and he melted before the cameras. He was in two "Twilight Zone" episodes, I read recently. Oh, yeah. The other one was where he was a scientist and his fellow scientist knew the world was gonna end or something, and they took their families and escaped on this rocket ship to another planet.

I got the series of "Tales from the Darkside" for my son for Xmas, and he brought them home for the summer so I've been watching them, heh, heh, heh. So far, Mr. Weaver has only appeared in one, but I haven't seen the 4th and last season yet.

He is a GOOD actor. Looking at his list of roles he's played, he's done a ton of theatre. I think the site is IMBD?

How cool would it be if they did another Lizzie movie and cast him as Andrew again. :money:

I spoke to him about it - he wasn't aware that it had never come out officially on home video. I was talking to him about the case, and he turned to the younger woman he was with (wife? friend? nurse?) and said "This fellow, he knows!"

Oh, and as he's ninety or so, having him play Andrew again would make about as much sense as 66 year-old actor Ted Neeley continuing to play Christ in tours of JC SUPERSTAR! :)
