Bordentown?
Should Fall River have been named Bordentown?
History of Fall River: with notices of Freetown and Tiverton Almy & Milne, Printers, 1862
Page 30:
In the year 1803, when the town of Fall River was incorporated, there were, however, only eighteen dwelling houses and about one hundred inhabitants, where the village now is. In North Main street there were six houses, occupied by Charles Durfee, Daniel Buffinton, John Luther, Abner Davol, John Cook, and Mary Borden. In East Center street there were only four, occupied by Nathan Bowen, Perry Borden, Seth Borden, and Elihu Cook. In West Central street there were two, occupied by Nathan Borden and Daniel Borden. In South Main street there were five, occupied by Simeon Borden, Richard Borden, Thomas Borden, Benjamin Brayton, and Francis Brayton. Near the shore there was one, occupied by Thomas Borden. Of these eighteen families, nine were Borden's.

Well, there's an Elizabethtown, KY, so howzabout "Lizzietown"?
Then, later, it can change its name again, to "Lizbethtown." :)
Seriously, thanks for sharing. This info furthers our understanding of why Miss L considered herself "Fall River Royalty."
And, perhaps why Abby clung to the "Durfee"???

I like "Lizzietown"! It's got nice ring to it. And we could have streets named "Emma Ave", "Andrew Lane", "Abby Junction". Oops! Sorry! Just running with imagination!

Hmmm, "Hatchetville", hmmm...
I doubt there were enough Bordens to have it called Bordentown. Good thought though, Snokks.

Also taken is Bad Ax, here in Michigan, named after a little Borden-style family squabble that ended rather badly; shown here is daughter Lucy (holding you know what) and brother Luke (holding you know what) posing with their slightly indisposed Mom.
