There's a Rebello, Lizzie Borden Past and Present on ebay for 75 dollars. Like new. To all who have expressed their desire to own a copy this is your chance. No. I have no idea who it is that is selling it. It's a listing on ebay. 75 dollars. The book was published at 50. If I didn't have two copies I would purchase it myself. Book dealers are asking upwards of 200 plus. It's by far the cheapest copy in decent condition that I have seen in years.

If you want a Leonard Rebello now is the time.

Okay, I put in my bid for $75.00...we'll see what happens. Unfortunately, its' not a "buy it now" price...the starting bid is 75, and hopefully not too many folks will up the ante, because I cannot afford much more than that. Thank again for pointing this out...

Though If you have your heart set on it, you may go up another 10 or 20 bucks. Now, Someone may bid at 76 dollars and beat you out.

Now if you decide to do that, watch the book with only minutes to spare to see if you are still in the game. Bid the second time with only minutes to spare. And don't outbid yourself. That is to say, don't bid more than you really want to spend or get into a biding war. Buyer's remorse feels just as bad as not winning the item.

Just posted on ebay is a copy of Heritage Press Magazine with an article about Lizzie Borden. Heritage was a hardcover magazine, just like a hardcover book, which was started in the forties. It ran as a hardcover right up to 1980 then changed to the standard paper magazine. I believe it is still in publication today.

Ok.

This issue is a incased with a lush imitation leather, hardcover edition in 92.

Now to all you Lizzie collectors. Opening bid is 3 bucks. The wonderful thing about this magazine article are the colorized photos of the crime, with the blood in Andrew's crushed face a vivid red. Book is worth having for the photos alone.

HELP! I am not used to bidding on ebay (I usually just buy things outright.)

The starting bid for the Rebello book was $75. I bid that price. Then I IMMEDIATELY got notice that someone outbid me at $76. So I went to the ebay page and bid $77. I immediately was informed the bid was now $78. I bid $79. Immediate notice it was $80. I bid $80. Immediate notice it was now $81.

What the heck is going on? Is someone really sitting at the computer and outbidding me a dollar at time? I've been busy cooking all day and didn't see the "outbid" notice until I sat down at my desk a few minutes ago...it seems very coincidental that someone starting bidding against me at the precise moment when I logged on..

My daughter said there are programs that will do this and that they are not allowed on ebay. Is that what is happening?

More importantly, HOW MUCH should I bid for it to be a good deal? Thanks guys!

PS I'm cooking meals to freeze for my husband 'cause I will be away next week in Milwaukee...new job, training, wish me luck!

Just for the sake of argument, lets say you bid 75 and I bid 100. The bid becomes 76 because it increases by a pre-set increment, usually one dollar. You will continue to be outbid by one dollar until you reach 100 dollars, but the amount will not increase at that point, I'll still have the high bid because I was first to bid that amount. As soon as you bid more than I have, then you'll be the high bidder, anything over 100 dollars in this case. eBay automatically makes the increases.

You have to decide what it is worth to you. I used to ask myself at what point will I not feel bad if I lose the item by 1 dollar, then I bid that amount.

Thanks, Yooper...my daughter finally explained all the "maximum bid" stuff to me. The auction ends at 10:35 tonight, Eastern Standard Time...I'm going to see this thing through right down to the last minute. I think my ceiling is $100, but your last sentence gave me pause. Maybe $110.

Personally, I wouldn't fool around, just do the "buy it now" and be done with it. The last one went for $150, the same as the buy it now price.

I can't afford $150. $100 is my ceiling...and some of the auctions don't have a "buy it now" feature, unfortunately.

Yes, I do have a copy of it, and it is worth every penny of $150.00!!! So if you can possibly find a way to come up with the money, I'm sure you won't regret it. I other words, I'd be mighty surprised if you regreted it.

If you go searching there's also a copy of Marie Belloc Lowndes book, Lizzie Borden A Study in Conjecture. Nice copy with its rare dust jacket. Priced right. The dust jacket is worth more than the actual book. Though, if you just want a copy of Lowndes book for you library
and not concerned with the dust jacket, wait, and do your homework, and you should be able to find one on ebay for half the price. As it stands now there are 5 copies on the market (est.) The cheapest is 50 bucks.

Published in 1939, Lowndes book must have been a popular/read book, since most have their dust jackets missing. But be aware, it is fiction.

I do NOT understand ebay...the starting bid for the current Rebello auction was $80. I bid $90. I was immediately told i was "outbid" by $1.00. Okay, so now the bid is $91.

I waited a day, then bid my maximum amount (the most my husband will indulge my Lizzie fanaticism; $100). Immediately after submitting my $100 bid, I was told I had been outbid by $2.50. Why $2.50, when before this, the "outbidding increment" was $1.00?

Can anyone explain this to me?

I do not enjoy this process. it seems to waste time. The Buy-It-Now price is $145, but I simply will not (read: cannnot) pay that. In my marriage, my husband and I have a strict rule: we can spend under a $100 on an item without checking with each other, but anything over than that requires a family meeting. Times are tight!

I have never bought anything by ebay, and I don't know the rules. But I imagine, maybe with the price's raising up, outbidding increment increases. For example, under 100 dollars, outbidding increment is 1 dollar; from 100 to 150 dollars, outbidding increment will be 2.50 dollars; from 151 to 200, outbidding increment will be 5 dollars, and so on. I don't know, but in auctions usually outbidding rules are this. (I have never gone to auctions, neither.)

People enter their max bid. Lets say I bid $150 on the book. No one sees my highest bid, but others may bid and it goes up in increments. I could be winning at $100 -- and the price won't change until someone outbids me. You come along and bid $101 so my bid automatically goes to $102 and so forth. The only way to be the high bidder is to bid higher than the current high bidders bid and hope no one out bids you.

That said-- I have never used the word bid so many times in my life.
