Re: Were the Bordens Embalmed?
Thanks twins, for the really interesting illustrations and text. I never realised that there were cooling boards! With those plus ice Andrew and Abby would be kept in fairly good condition between Thursday and Saturday! Winward, being fashionionable, might have offered embalming to those who really wanted it, though. Perhaps he or an assistant had trained elsewhere.

Your welcome!
On Jun 03, 2008, UndertakerWinward posted in part: “…My name is Andrew Correia and I am currently an Apprentice Funeral Director & Embalmer "Undertaker." Naturally, being in funeral service, I have always been interested in Winward's role throughout the case. If Lizzie hired him, there is no doubt in my mind that he buried only the elite of Fall River. He had a home on "The Hill" on Hanover Street and his business was on S. Main, if I'm not mistaken. I highly doubt Mr. Winward had anything to do with the disappearance of Andrew Borden's ring. Being an Undertaker for the upper class in Fall River, I doubt he would have taken it.”
So, now we know why Lizzie wanted Winward for preparing the bodies; he was an Undertaker for the upper class in Fall River!

Yes, the cream of Fall River Society, my dear! Nothing but the best! The ring disappeared! I must have missed that! It went into that big black hole with Andrew's Prince Albert and the last letter he sent to Morse, plus Abby's note. All gone, who knows where. Seriously though, are you sure Andrew wasn't wearing it when he was dressed for his funeral?

Emma at trial.. Q: Did he constantly wear it after it was given to him? A: Always. Q: Do you know weather or not it was upon his finger at the time he was buried? A: It was. The picture of Andrew naked to the waist is of him on a cooling board which I thought was brought to the house.

Yes I knew he was on a board, but I just thought it was to facilitate the autopsy. I didn't know they were called cooling boards or that you can pack ice round the body on them.
I cannot remember where I read that Bridget said that Andrew locked the door behind her when he came in. It's not in her prelim or trial testimony so I'm at a loss until it turns up. Just have to discount it, please.

Re: Were the Bordens Embalmed?
I see, thanks twins! By the way, didn't the Elizabeth Montgomery film of Lizzie have a scene where Andrew the undertaker was embalming someone in the cellar?
