I've just recently been totally converted to this most interesting pasttime.
The Borden Genealogy from the FRHS is excellent.
To me, it was like learning a new kind of math.
I had no idea I'd take to it so well.
Stefani used to be the family genealogical researcher- we tramped many a family graveyard together in the 70's.
To think there are Cemetery Societies dedicated to preserving the info contained on gravestones- I don't think I would have thought of that.
Sorry, Gramma, i didn't understand all the "removes".
Doug taught me this a while ago- can you explain what you mean?

Cousinship
Cousins removed . ........ not an easy concept unless you have on paper and I never trust myself to do it without the chart in front of me or I let Treemaker do it for me! I'm not very good at explaining this but I'll give it a try.
Let's try it on the first cousin level.
If you have a first cousin and they have a child it is your first cousin once removed. That child's child would be first cousin twice removed, etc. As long as you stay in the same line each generation is one more time removed.
If you step down both lines the relationship changes. Such as, your child and the child of your cousin would be second cousins....they share the same great grandparents. The if you go further down one side it becomes second cousin once removed, etc.
In Lizzie's case above there are multiple relationships to the same person as she has more than one line going back to the same ancestor. So she was related to William S. Borden several times over. My file is not complete so there may be even more.

Re: William S. Borden Tree
The title of this post made me recall a scene in that video in which A. Brown explained his William Borden theory: he hung himself on a (real and natural) tree, and a hatchet dropped from one of his hands! Is this scene a historic fact? Was there really a hatchet found near William’ body?
"Mr. Morse, when you were told for the THIRD time that Abby and Andrew had been killed, why did you pronounce a "WHAT" to Mrs. Churchill? Why?"

Re: William S. Borden Tree
Yes! There was- I saw a death certificate for William Borden- he actually poisoned himself then hung himself. On the certificate, it was listed as suicide by hanging as cause of death. The hatchet was nearby and it was thought to have been the site of another murder (can't remember the name).Franz wrote:The title of this post made me recall a scene in that video in which A.
