Liz Montgomery Statue in Salem

First, a big "hello" to all my old friends here at the Forum! I've read a couple of news items lately that have a vague connection to the Borden case (quite vague). They pertain to a massive statue of Elizabeth Montgomery that the TV Land cable channel is proposing to erect in a park in, of all places, Salem, MA. Apparently the more-than-lifesize statue represents Montgomery in the role of Samantha Stephens, not Lizzie. Some of the town officials have belatedly begun pondering whether it makes any sense to allow the statue, which is to be cast, set up and maintained by the TV channel. This is the same outfit that sponsored the statue of Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden and the one of Mary Tyler Moore flinging her chapeau a la Mary Richards. 'Wonder if Fall River would object to a statue of Ms. Montgomery as Lizzie?

Hi, Edisto!!! Interesting. I understand the witch angle, but, Bewitched was supposed to take place in Connecticut, not Massachusetts. I wonder why no statue there? Yes, Elizabeth Montgomery as Lizzie statue in Fall River, that would be cool to see!

I don't think Fall River knows yet what to do with Lizzie. A Liz Montgomery statue might be the perfect compromise.

A 9 foot statue of Elizabeth Montgomery riding on a broom sounds a little on the hokey side to me. But what do I know about witches.

The statue is there in Salem, I accidentally found it when I came out of the City Hall. Too bad I did not get the police officer in the background that is guarding it 24/7.

No other ones of the statue, I took it quickly as there was a police officer guarding to the left in the background and lots of tourists taking pictures too. Any other pictures anyone might like from Massachusetts, let me know, I go to alot of cities and towns as a real estate appraiser and it is quite busy at the moment, so I am travelling all over and always have my camera with me.

I will have to get some pictures this summer of Smuttynose Island. I saw a topic on here about Ed Pearson's book on Smuttynose about the "Midnight axe murder". I go to Smuttynose Island once or twice a year with my husband on our boat. I will take lots of pictures. The original home where the axe murder took place is no longer there, but there is a house next to it where the original one stood, which is supposed to be one of the oldest homes in New England. The island is quite interesting, I even squeezed into Marion's rock where she hid in the cold winter night to avoid the killer.

Somehow I have the feeling Samantha would look better as a little coffee-table piece than as a nine-foot statue. But whatever rings your chimes...or burns your stake, as the case may be. Nice to see how it looks. I would actually prefer to see a statue of the real Lizzie in Fall River, rather than Liz Montgomery. Not that Liz Montgomery wasn't better looking.
There's an automobile dealership (Volvo) a few miles from where I live on a very busy thoroughfare. Suddenly one day, as I was driving past, I noticed that the owner had installed a very realistic, life-sized statuary group, consisting of a farmer slopping his pigs. What that has to do with Volvos beats me! I figured maybe the guy had won it in a poker game. (He used to be the Lt. Governor of Virginia and ran unsuccessfully for Governor.) It turns out his brother sculpted it. I guess it proved to be rather hard to sell, so bro took it off his hands.

The new movie Bewitched is out today I think?
Ebert & Roper were on Leno 2 nights ago and proclaimed that Bewitched was never a movie before now (like the Honeymooners, they said). But I always thought that Montgomery TV show was based on I Married A Witch.

Remember that movie?

Elizbeth Montgomery in her rendition of Lizzie was the best to date I have seen of Lizzie Borden movies...no others compare .

Well Elizabeth Montgomery will be a hard one to top. I don't think anyone will ever measure up to her as Lizzie.
