lizzie's memiors and why she stayed in Fall River

I wish Lizzie would written a memior of what went on, her life. I think it would have been interesting to read some of her thoughts about that faithful day, the trial. And how it felt to go through something like that. I have also wondered why she stayed in Fall River after the trial because everyone pretty much avoided her.

I have very mixed feelings on autobiographies or memoirs or whatever you want to call them. Sure, it's nice to get their view on certain things but, you have to keep in mind that they can also be the most inaccurate and self-serving accounts. Currently, I'm doing research on Alice Marble a tennis player from the 1930s-1940s. She wrote two autobiographies. Now, Marble was a great champion and a wonderful person but, by the time she wrote her second autobiography she was older, lonely, deep into depression and had turned into an alcoholic. Her book was filled with a fantasy world she had made up. It was sad and what's sadder is many people fell for some of her "stories." Anyway, my point is although I would LOVE to read many things Lizzie would have had to say I also realize she'd be very motivated to blame others and sort of gloss over certain things. I really doubt she'd be honest in a book.

When you say blame others, are you referring to the murders, her pre-trial life, or something else ? If she did not committ the murders, she would have every reason to point the blame as to who did, I would think. I wonder why Lizzie wouldn't be honest if she penned her autobiography in her later years of life...at that point, what would she have to lose ?

If she really did commit the murders...everything she worked toward building up.

I think most people who write an autobiography can't resist the chance to "change history."
Also, I've noticed, even within families, that people recall the same events differently. Which never ceases to amaze me.
It's true tho what they say about reality-
Reality is whatever your own perception is.

By blaming others- I don't necessarily think that means a narrow area of blame for the crimes.
I think people can "blame others" for simple things as well.
Like, "If my mother hadn't died when I was 2 I might have...."- that kind of "blame."
"If my father had waited longer to remarry, if Abby had been interested in us, if I had had a new dress at that party I would have been noticed..." -These are "blame" scenarios and traps anyone could fall into.

It would still be interesting to read her thoughts and feelings, even if she was blaming everyone else or been self serving. It's just how she perceived things, I guess is what I'd be interested in reading.

her story in her words could give insight into her psyche...which would be most interesting! one's writings always tell us something about the person...skewed, biased, self-serving, or inaccurate as they may be.
