Dennis Sullivan And Bridget Sullivan

Post by Kat »

I was going thru my notes and found mention of Dennis Sullivan.
I had noticed a Dennis Sullivan in the case twice- once as a place that Bridget stayed when she came to Newport, and another time in 1892 as someone in the Witness Statements. I didn't know if they were the same person, tho I understand there would be several *Dennis Sullivan*s in the area.

W.S., pg. 8 (Doherty & Harrington)
"At 11.15 A. M. Dennis Sullivan, employed at Allen & Slades, came along and stopped to talk to Mrs. Gomeley. While going up Second street he saw no person leave the yard or go up or down the street on whom he could place suspicion."

So that stay with Mr. Sullivan was in 1886. Plenty of time for him to leave Newport and move to Fall River? If he did, he left his family? There was some rumor (was it Trickey/McHenry?) that Bridget had a fiance in Newport who died?

Here is info I could find on a Fall River Dennis Sullivan:

He was a clerk at 16 Bedford Street, and boarded at #86 Third Street, in 1892.
The store was listed as "Allen, Slade & Co. (G.W. Slade, Edward B. Lake, and B/S.C. Gifford), commission merchants and grocers, at 16 Bedford St., Second Street and Market square."

That area was known as "Market Square" and it seems this store was big enough to have entrances on Bedford, and also on Second Street?

Is there any chance this is the same Dennis Sullivan?
I think Bridget said she did not have a beau inFall River.
I wonder if he had any kind of relationship with her at all, whether he was the transplanted Newport man, or not?
