The second issue of year FOUR of The Hatchet: Journal of Lizzie Borden Studies, is now online for your reading pleasure.

We have some excellent pieces in this issue: a provocative essay by Dr. Annette Holba, an interesting bio of Agnes de Mille by Neilson Caplain, an enlightening piece by Michael Brimbau, a photographic essay by Mark Amrantes, and a new work of poetry by Michael Brimbau.

Plus, our 2nd Street regulars make appearances: Eugene Hosey, Douglas Walters, Mary Elizabeth Naugle, Denise Noe and Sherry Chapman.

NICE, NICE NICE, cover Stefani. Very CHIC..... Excellent choice, especially after the busy detailed cover of the last issue displaying the 1877 aerial map of Fall River. If I'm not mistaken this is the first issue with a "face" on the cover other than Lizzie's.

just got back from a trip, haven't read yet.

the photo in the writer's page in this issue is rather grotesque (i never considered this scale or i would have made a more modest choice, believe me).

I've read just about all of the issue and, as always, enjoyed it. Eugene Hosey has some sexy picture in there! That was cute, him being surprised at the size of it. It really is terrific.

I like the Writer's Ink feature. Maybe some more questions could be added. There are no personal ones, and maybe it'd be good to do so we can sort of get to know the person, or at least know more about him/her.

Sexy Eugene, I loved your article on Spiering. It was great to have two articles (yours and Denise Noe's) on him in the same book. You captured him pretty perfectly, I think. I so love to see someone get their 'just desserts'.

The cover is so good! For some reason, it reminds me of Stefani - a pose she might strike during a lecture or an animated conversation.

Thanks for treating us to the page of "Nine Pine Street"s playbill. Or should I say thanks to Neilson Caplain.

Oh, I loved the "Word 4 Word" section! Denise, I saw that movie once and had forgotten the name of it. It was so good. I never saw anything quite like it before. Glad to have the title. I hope you keep this feature. It's good to have several reviews in the one section.

Doug Walters' 'Compositor's Bench' was witty and fun. Keep crankin' 'em out, Doug!

Mark Amarantes' photo essay is fantastic! That's going to be an important piece later on, when the courthouse is up and people wonder what it used to look like. It was good to see some of the houses in the area as well. (I love the paint job on the B & B.)

Okay - the photo on the back cover is from a mural in FR. I couldn't figure out what the significance of it was. I have to say I don't care for it much. Maybe if I saw it as a whole.

But once again, a stellar publication. Thank you, Stef.
