spider gates in leicester, MA

Post by Cheryl »

I missed writing to Terrie before she left to recommend a trip to Leicester, MA to find Spider Gates.

It is such a bizarre place to visit, I was wondering if anyone on this forum has visited the cemetery? You'd know if you had, because you'd have to walk a 1/4 mile down a secluded dirt road in the middle of the woods to find it!

Yes I missed saying bon voyage as well! Maybe she will be online during her trip and read your suggestion. Sounds cool!

Have you been to the beach in Florida Cheryl?
Have you a favorite?
My next trip will be to Daytona Beach Shores.

I don't have a favorite beach, I'm embarrassed to say. I'm not much of a beach person, although for 9 years when the kids were small my brothers and I would meet at Myrtle Beach. Every year we'd rent the same beach house, and I looked forward to it every year.

I really enjoy ocean fishing, though. My in-laws live on the river in Stuart, FL and occasionally we'll bring the boat down there and spend about 7 hours trolling.

Enjoy Daytona! I've always had a curiousity to visit during bike week!

There's quite a web site on the Spider Gates cemetery at:

No, Cheryl, I haven't. Wouldn't mind going though. Looks like a mysterious place.

There is a cemetery in Yosemite Valley that is the final resting place of many of the early settlers. When I visit I like to sit on the lone marble bench and contemplate the lives of the people buried there. It is such a peaceful place with just the breeze and oak trees to keep you company.

One person buried there is a fourteen year old girl named Effie Maud Crippen. She cut her foot open on broken glass while wading in nearby Mirror Lake in 1881. Before they could get her down the trail to a doctor she lost too much blood and died soon after. For some reason her story sticks in my mind.

There are a lot of interesting people buried in cemeteries with a lot of interesting stories to tell...
