Princess Diana: 10 Years Later

There are some moments in life one that never forgets. Whether you liked her or loathed her, Diana’s death is one of them.

She was a beautiful and remarkable woman. Personally, I think, the work she left behind is a legacy in itself. In the 10 years since her death, there has not been anyone to replace Princess Diana as she is a hard act to follow.

She was a woman who sought love and had it within her to distributed her love to others less fortunate. Her work showed that it came from her heart.

Today, marks the tenth year after her death.

I can't believe it's been 10 years. Eeesh.

One of those do-you-remember-what-you-were-doing-when-you-heard moments.

Incredibly, I had the news channel on TV (which is pretty rare) when they announced the crash. A while later, they announced she had died! I ended up with it most of the night. I think for a week or more it was rather like I had a new hobby---there was almost always something about Diana on TV or in the papers.

My parents (who live in England) called me after the funeral. Even my stoic father was crying!

I was checking my e-mail when I heard the news broadcast on TV, that she had died. Like you, Tina-Kate, that is all I was able to focus on. Her picture has shown up on the front of all kinds of magazines through out the past 10 years. She was truly amazing, and is not going to be forgotten, soon.

I remember the day she died (I will always believe the photographers caused it with their constant hounding) and her funeral. I was bitter because I felt the Royal family treated her like garbage. They had a good thing going with Diana but failed to appreciate it at the time. I'll bet the Family is saying, "She has been dead now for ten years and the public still loves her more than us!" I was never a big fan of Diana's but I feel she had a real good heart.

I think the Royal Family had been set in their ways, everything was going smoothly for them and then all of a sudden a young vibrant person comes along whom the public loves and that upset their apple cart. They were jealous and felt Diana was beneath them when in reality she was above them. That's what I feel.

Rest in peace, Diana.

I tuned in this evening to watch a rebroadcast of Diana's memorial service from this morning, on Fox. It was all quite moving, especially Harry's speech. But Fox had the infuriating habit of cutting to commercials whenever the musical portion of the service began, and they would return when the piece was ending.
Ironically, the same thing happened during the broadcast of Charles and Diana's wedding. The American commentators thought that when the music began, it was an immediate cue for them to begin talking (and about the most inane things, too!) I remember shouting at Tom Brokaw on the screen "Be quiet! I want to hear the music, not you!"

I spent most of the night watching the TV programs on the 31st.
In one, they had a lot of the informal interview, on tape, she gave to her actor/speech coach.

However, this guy, Jephson, had it pretty straight about Diana. His occasional commentary, I think, was *spot on!*

I didn't get to watch all that I would have liked due to work. I did see one TV program which questioned the inability of the French and the British to locate the missing Fiat Uno from the tunnel. This program mentioned that one pappazzati who tracked Diana had one. He claimed he was not in Paris at the time of her death, but he was found dead in the burnt out car a year later (with an official verdict of suicide). This was new to me.

This program heavily faulted the French emergency system and speculated heavily that Diana would have survived under the U.S. or British systems which rush "victims" to the hospital instead of attempting treatment at the scene.
