Andy Borden giving to charity?

Post by snokkums »

I was reading thru the inquest testimonies and found somthing interesting. Reading thru John V Morse's testimony he states that he and andrew at times did discuss a will within the past year and he stated that Andrew had stated that he thought he should make some bequests outside to charitable purposes. John Morse didn't know if Andrew had made the will or not.

But that would give Lizzie motive to kill her father, if she thought that that was her money being given to other people.
Suicide is painless It brings on many changes and I will take my leave when I please.

I wish I had my Rebello here to quote directly.

There's a section about the Women's Christian Temperance Union and their "falling out" with Lizzie. A long involved story, but...

The WCTU had offices in the Andrew Borden Building. It came out during the incidents (after Lizzie was acquitted) that the WCTU seemed to think Andrew Borden was going to leave the building or a portion thereof to the WCTU in his will. Whether Andrew did or did not make such a promise is unknown.

A moot point, as the property went to Emma & Lizzie.

The gist of it is, some of the WCTU ladies began to ostracize Lizzie & she cut them off. After much argument, the WCTU left their offices in the Andrew Borden Building without notice.

Good post, Snookums. I had read that Andrew told Morse he wanted to leave some land to the old ladies home. I think I read that he discussed making a will to Morse twice. If he was talking about what he was going to put in his will to Morse, I think Morse relayed that info to 'the girls'. I'd think he would not like to see what could have been his sister, Sarah's, inheritance go to Abby, and would rather see his blood-related niece's get it all. There's a lot of talk about Andrew planning to give Swansea to Abby that threw the girls over the edge, but I don't know if I've ever read that.

TK - It seems like Lizzie would not renew their lease and kind of kicked them out. Isn't that how it went?
