Am I right in remembering that Lizzie was a high-school dropout, or no?

Lizzie was a drop-out. Supposedly, she wasn't an exceptional student. I can't remember the source, but she was suppose to be able to play the piano but stopped playing because her playing wasn't good enough (or someone criticized her playing).
She doesn't seem to me like someone with much self confidence in her teen years.

One source on Lizzie in school can be The Lizzie Borden Sourcebook.
I read that she never really bloomed until she joined the church and got involved in work there.
But she did have a lot of friends. I can't remember exactly who were friends that went to school with her, tho that doesn't mean they were her friend straight thru her school years to adulthood.
