Though, looking out the window, I can still see a for sale sign on the lawn, which was just placed there a couple of days ago.

Rumor has it, and this is just rumor, that Maplecroft has sold.

I was lucky enough to spend a couple of nights in Maplecroft many years ago. The owner was a nice enough fellow although I understand there are mixed feeling about him from others. The place was slightly run down at that time. It was likely quite a nice place in Lizzie's day. Anyone know in which room she died? She had a bedroom in the front and back of the house which I understood she moved from summer to winter.

Though it is called the summer bedroom, there is no proof that this was why it was constructed.
There could have been other reasons, the need for a library and sitting room. The house was not really that big. Everyone thinks it was, but even Nance O'Neil had a summer home with 22 rooms, much bigger, and that was her summer home. (250 acres, by the way) Also, there were many much bigger houses in Lizzie's Fall River.
Victorians often had sitting areas throughout the house, and some reserved a room on the second level for such purpose. Over time the "lore" if you can call it that, was that Lizzie used the new bedroom for a summer bedroom. It that is what the public would like to believe, they may be right. But there is no proof that is why Lizzie built it. Talking to historian, Michael Martins of the FRHS, he tells it in his book that there is no such documentation that the room was built for such a purpose.
In any event, the sign is still out front. I hear no more news or rumors. And there still is no "sale pending" addendum added to it. But here's the number if you wish to call and schedule an appointment to see it. Good luck with that.

It still could be sold, even tho a 'for sale' sign is still up.
My neighbor's house had been sold for a while, but it still had the 'for sale' sign up. I don't know why the sign was still up afterwards. Maybe in case the sale fell thru, the realtor didn't want to lose a prospective buyer? You should go ask the owner, MB.

I always thought that if Lizzie Borden haunted a place, it would be Maplecroft. It's where she wanted to be. So I'd be afraid to spend the night in there.
