What say you....

Post by BOBO »

This from The evening times (Washington D.C.), Dec. 4, 1899..... "An Old Crime Recalled".. "A Detective Offers To Find The Borden Murderer"... "The Borden murder has been brought to light again by the offer of A New York detective, Harry Simons, to prove the guilt of the Borden's' servant girl's lover in connection with the double tragedy."
Stories similar to this one popped up in newspapers all over the U.S. the first week in Dec., 1899. It was printed as far west as Seattle. Many say that the detective had proof that Bridget's lover killed the Bordens and then left for Ireland, where she was suppose to meet him. Many of the stories claimed that he wanted $4,000 for the proof. We know the Borden sisters had a $5,000 dollar reward for the killer(s) capture, so this doesn't seem to make sense, unless he wanted the $4,000 on top of the $5,000. This is the only story that I found that named the detective by name. Has anyone heard of this Harry Simons before? My biggest wonder is why the Borden sisters didn't take him up on his offer? Unless....

I found a post on this topic from Jul. 2011 by allen in the forum. No farther comment is made as the topic turned in another direction.

Allen was terrific in bringing forth this sort of information, wasn't she? Perhaps Lizzie and Emma were a bit reluctant to part with their money because they knew that Bridget didn't have 'a lover'! There is no evidence that she returned to Ireland either.
