August 4th Events for 2022

There is much to do in and around Fall River this August 4th, the 130th anniversary of the murders of Andrew and Abby Borden.

It is difficult to tell from the Herald News article, however, just what is planned for the Lizzie Borden B&B. Even four days out, the new owners are cryptic as hell about what will take place. One would assume they have something in mind.

Says the Herald News: “They will mark the 130th anniversary of the Borden killings with crime scene re-enactments, refreshments, and giveaways. They’ll also be offering the house tour. ‘We will have actors portraying different pertinent figures in the story as part of the regular house tours. Guests will be able to interact with them briefly and hear their side of the story. Each tour will be slightly different and unique for our guests,’ said Lizzie Borden House general manager Jared Robinson.” Nothing clearly stated, no drama, and no story detailed. Unfortunate.

The Fall River Historical Society, finally open after a long COVID shutdown, is again offering tours of the Lizzie Borden collection, the largest in the world relating to the case and the Borden family. Here is their flier:

In addition, from 10 AM to 2 PM, you can get the newest Lizzie Borden book signed by its author, William D. Spencer. The book is titled Lizzie Borden Uncut: A Casebook of Theories and offers background info, snyopses, and critiques of all the major Borden books and essays. A valuable addition to any Borden library.

THEN, there are the library talks!

Mondo Lizzie Borden, Episode 7: NOT Lizzie Borden

Being a collector of the weird and fabulous as it relates to the Borden case, I have files of these images saved during the past twenty years. And I would like to share them with you now. Laugh, gasp, chuckle, or rage, these photos were all on eBay. For a price. I used to write the sellers and let them know they didn’t have a Lizzie, but soon gave up on that practice. They didn’t care. Even though they were committing fraud by the sale of the image as a true Lizzie Borden. Oh well.

Here we go. Enjoy.
