Lizzie Borden Chronicles: A Local Recap

Each week after the showing of a new episode of The Lizzie Borden Chronicles on Lifetime TV, our fearless local reporter, Deb Allard of the Fall River Herald News offers up an interview or a take on the latest installment. With the series drawing to a close in a few weeks with episode #8, it may be time for a recap of Fall River’s local news coverage of the big little show.

Note: according to IMDB, this is “season one” of the show, which could mean more are in the making or that is the designation of all limited-run miniseries in their database. We shall see.

Lizzie Borden Chronicles series list.

Love it or hate it, this series has everyone talking. Ratings dipped and then went up again. Some bloggers revel is its failure, as if entertainment is history. Others try to make a name for themselves by cheering on the demise of the show, all the while mocking others, Lizzie Borden herself, people interested in history, and people who know the difference between scary fun and historical truth. I guess it takes all kinds to make a world.

The best thing about this series is that it constantly surprises. Just when you think it couldn’t get wilder, when you are fairly certain Lizzie has done her most dastardly killing, there she goes again with another whopper. The Lizzie Borden Chronicles is a rollercoaster ride. It is strictly on TV for the thrills. While it reminds me of American Horror Story, it moves much quicker and allows for less character development. Regardless, it is quite in keeping with the Grand Guignol style of theatre I love so well.

I will keep watching and wish the show another season. They have yet to make me want to stop watching.

Mondo Lizzie Borden, Episode 7: NOT Lizzie Borden

Being a collector of the weird and fabulous as it relates to the Borden case, I have files of these images saved during the past twenty years. And I would like to share them with you now. Laugh, gasp, chuckle, or rage, these photos were all on eBay. For a price. I used to write the sellers and let them know they didn’t have a Lizzie, but soon gave up on that practice. They didn’t care. Even though they were committing fraud by the sale of the image as a true Lizzie Borden. Oh well.

Here we go. Enjoy.
