Lizzie Borden Goings On

Currently it is 89 degrees (feels like temp is 97) and the humidity is at 63% in Fall River, Massachusetts. Tomorrow, the 120th anniversary of the murder of Andrew and Abby Borden, the weather is expected to be slightly cooler but with a higher humidity. It will be much warmer here today than it was during the day of the murders, contrary to what you may have read.

According to the late William L. Masterton, in an article titled “Weather We Do: Some Like It Hot!” from the Lizzie Borden Quarterly IV.1 (January 1997): 7-8, and after quoting various authors on the Lizzie Borden case that all claim that the day of the murders was a very hot one, Masterton used three sources (The Fall River Daily Herald, The Fall River Evening News, and the United States Signal Service) to prove that the temperature was not over 78 degrees when Andrew was murdered.

Hey, I think right now the city would kill for a 78 degree day! Just kidding of course.

Now to the events of Saturday, the 4th.

The Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast is once again presenting a dramatization of the murder day with a house tour and performance that starts at 10:30 am. PERFORMANCES @ 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:00 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:00 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:00 PM & 3:30 PM. Some of the times are already sold out (tickets are still a reasonable $12.50).

I HIGHLY recommend you partake of this event. I have been almost every year since moving to Fall River and each year is better than the last. And, surprisingly, each year is different from the last. So if you have been before, what you see on Saturday will not be the same thing! Pretty cool!

The Fall River Historical Society is having a one day exhibition of new and unseen and rarely seen Lizzie Borden ephemera, artifacts, documents, and trial exhibits. YOU MUST SEE THIS COLLECTION!! It is worth the trip to Fall River all by itself. Tours will be conducted by the curatorial staff of the Historical Society and promises to be grand!

Here is a link to the Herald News today with a story about the exhibit.

I will be attending both events, so if you see me around, please say hello! It is always great to talk Lizzie with folks!

Mondo Lizzie Borden, Episode 7: NOT Lizzie Borden

Being a collector of the weird and fabulous as it relates to the Borden case, I have files of these images saved during the past twenty years. And I would like to share them with you now. Laugh, gasp, chuckle, or rage, these photos were all on eBay. For a price. I used to write the sellers and let them know they didn’t have a Lizzie, but soon gave up on that practice. They didn’t care. Even though they were committing fraud by the sale of the image as a true Lizzie Borden. Oh well.

Here we go. Enjoy.
